OLD BUSINESS: Chief Flagg announced Dr. Zehr has been added to the to the EMSAC committee as the representative from Cleveland Clinic. The funding from the Board of County Commissioners has been approved for the new heart medication amiodarone. This medication will be added to the protocol in January. Each colleague will be individually trained to administer this medication. Commander Aguilera passed out a breakdown of the trauma calls for the last year. He hopes to be able to have a breakdown of all trauma calls per month available in the near future. NEW BUSINESS: Chief Flagg informed the group that EMS now has a website on the Internet at www.co.collier.fl.us/ems. December 1, 2000 the Inter-facility transport went from 12 to 24 hours a day. January 1, 2001 7 new medics will be added to accommodate the new Grey Oaks facility. Chief Flagg stated she is trying to arrange for Governor Bush to make the presentation to the EMS Department as the #1 EMS System of the United States at a future Board of County Commissioners meeting. 180 AED's have now been placed in the Community. Two thousand three hundred and forty- four community members have been trained to use the AED's. The Water Rescue training class has been completed, and equipment is being dispersed. A Senator from Volusia County is sponsoring a local bill to eliminate the Certificate of Necessity for the EMS Department in Volusia County. If this bill is amended at the legislative session to Statewide bill, in Collier County, this would potentially create nine different emergency medical services departments without any oversight by the Board of County Commissioners.
