Re : Volunteer Program
Collier County has recently become involved with the Volunteer
Center and specifically their Retired Volunteer Senior Program or
R.S.V.P. The purpose of the program is to utilize retired
volunteers who have gained a wide variety of skills, knowledge
and abilities during their worklives. This allows them the
opportunity to provide meaningful contributions to the county in
which they live and allows us the many advantages of those
contributions at no cost. Examples of some of the duties that
might be assigned to a volunteer or team of volunteers include
the following:
utilizing management know-how of retired
executives for consulting purposes ( e .g.
engineering, planning)
assisting with special events
researching and developing traffic safety
programs
training, instructing, coaching various
skills and activities
developing public awareness programs
assisting in county beautification programs
providing tours of the facilities and
developing programs to enhance awareness of
Collier County' s functions and
accomplishments
The program is designed to place retired senior volunteers in
meaningful positions which may include clerical assistance
provided there is some variety and the task is not menial . For
example, eight hours a day of copying or filing would not be
(over)
•
appropriate. Also, it will be not be appropriate to replace
regular employees with volunteers.
By providing a local match on a grant for this program, we are
entitled to one day per week of the Program Manager ' s time .
The Program Manager, Susan Oliver, along with Marsha Litsinger ,
Senior Human Resources Analyst, the County' s liaison with
R.S .V.P. , will hold a meeting at 9 : 00 a.m. on Wednesday, February
14, 1990 in the rear portion of the Board Room. Those interested
in participating in this program should attend.
If you have any questions concerning this program, please contact
either Marsha Litsinger at 774-8757 or me at 774-8759 .
