Return to Naples EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL Minutes For Meeting Of January 17 , 1990 Members Present: Fred Hubbard Bill Erickson Egon Hill Gary Young Chuck Buell Members Excused: Jack Winters Guest: John Witchger Barbara Pharr Meeting Location: The Immokalee Branch Library Minutes A tour of EMS Station 6 was conducted by EMS crew members Renne ' , Harbour, Lichliter, and Thorsen. Dr. Larry Farmer, Assistant Medical Director of the Immokalee Clinic, showed the committee the triage and treatment areas of the Immokalee Clinic and informed committee members that his average need for EMS services per day was 4 to 6 patients over a 12 hour period. The committee was called to order by Chairman Fred Hubbard at 1545 hours in the Immokalee Branch Library. The committee discussed the impact of the closing of the Immokalee Clinic by Collier Health Services Inc. (CHSI) on August 12 , 1989 . The Director presented the statistics surrounding the calls up to and including December 1989 . No discernible impact of the Clinic closing can be seen on EMS numbers. John Witchger offered the observation that EMS would not experience a call increase based upon community perceptions that EMS is not free and patients will be forced to pay for services. Much of the transport problem is not within the normal scope of emergency care in that non-emergency patients who are ambulatory in the Naples coastal area, can reach health care facilities through locally available transport services. Those services range from personal vehicles, taxi services , to charitable transport services such as Help-On-Wheels. The EMS Advisory Board requested the Director to investigate the cost providing a more frequent transport service for patients to and from the Immokalee area. ************************************************************* NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, 14 February 1990 at 3 : 30 P.M.
