Other Business E M S A C Minutes for March 8 , 1989 Members Present : Board: Louise Weiner Chief Norris Ijams Egon Hill Dr. Hanns Ehrhardt Gary Young Staff: George Barton Bill Griffin Jack Wampler No quorum - only five members present Egon Hill suggested EMSAC advise Dr. Polkowski to sent a representative from her department if she is unable to attend meetings. J.C. Smelko has a letter of resignation from EMSAC. He will have it turned in by Friday. At that time, Nancy Israelson of the BCC will advertise publicly of the two vacancies on the EMSAC Board. George Barton to write letter to J.C. Smelko requesting EMSAC file be returned. Business report from Jack Wampler: February billings were $180,833. February collections were $110 ,756 which works out to be 54% collection rate. This is not up to normal standards but is expected for this time of year. Mr. Hill requested this same information be done on a quarterly basis also. Jack also advised that EMS was at this time being audited by the Clerk of Courts. Bids on the collection agency has been sent out. Advertising should be in this weeks newspaper. Bids open on March 23rd. In October of last year, Jack Wampler was awarded by the State CWI Credit Professionals the" Credit Professional of the Year" . In April he will be competing against 8 other people for the Eastern United States award. Egon Hill suggested that the Board of County Commissioners give Jack official recognition for this award. EMS covered the Aetna Golf Challenge. Only had 2 transports on the last day of the event. Bill Griffin gave stats on Medic 22 for the month of February. This extra unit handled 45-46 calls for the month. Medic 22 is only on line 5 days a week from 9 : 00 to 5 : 00. George Barton along with Jay Reardon and Peter Bolton are working with County Manager on staffing of Med-Flight with 3 dedicated flight medics. Med-Flight is down at this time for their 100 hour maintenance. Should be down 4 to 5 days. Chief Ijams inquired on EMS coverage for area football games. Bill Griffin stated that in the past we used on duty crews to cover. The question was asked whether EMS should charge the school system for this service. While on the subject, George Barton stated that next years budget should have a separate line item for such services. Dr. Ehrhardt addressed articles in last Sunday' s newspaper regarding proposed bed tax. He has written two letters addressing the possibility of EMS benefiting from this proposed bed tax. One was sent to Brian Mackenzie , Assistant to the County Manager and the other letter was sent to Neil Dorrill , County Manager. Copies of these letters and the news articles given to George Barton and Bill Erickson. The recent article in the Naples Daily News addressing traffic problems and ambulances was well received. George Barton needs comments from board members on the goals for the ' 90 budget.
