Minutes 07/17/1984 MINUTES OF THE EMPLOYEE ADVISORY COUNCIL (EMSEAC )
7/17/84
MEMBERS PRESENT - Jeff Page, Terry Ortengren, Tom Maguire, Bill Boettcher,
Beverly Utley, Sue Keny
GUESTS PRESENT - Doug Greenfield
0930 The meeting was called to order by Jeff Page
OLD BUSINESS
1 . Last month the possibility of a non-emergency transport system being
started in Collier County was discussed. Doug Greenfield updated us
on this stating that as far as he knows there will be none in the near
future.
2. The air conditioner at 501 has been replaced and works fine.
3. In Services are being video taped now. These will be available to
anyone that wishes to see them. The tapes will be at EMS Headquarters
and may be checked out through Jean.
4. The merit raise and method of evaluating an employee for this raise was
discussed. First of all the guidelines for a satisfactory employee
needs to be defined and then if an employee performs above that standard
he will be qualified for a merit raise. It is important for all em-
ployees to participate in setting these guidelines. A letter will be
sent to each employee asking for their input. It is important for all
employees to keep their own folder of documents, accomplishments, letters
of commendation, etc. Employees have the option of a pre-evaluation
meeting with the supervisor to make sure he or she has this extra infor-
mation before completing your county evaluation form. Evaluations will
be on your anniversary date, so contact your supervisor if you wish a
pre-evaluation meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
1 . Vacation time is accrued when you are a new employee on probation.
2. Pediatric paddles for lifepaks was discussed. Unfortunantely these
too expensive to be purchased.

3. It was brought up that some employees would like an earlier shift
change. Doug Greenfield has no problem with this. Employees need
to get with their council members and voice their opinions . It was
mentioned that perhaps Immokalee might be exempt from an earlier
shift change due to the length of the drive.
4. The question was brought up why we are dispatched to transports at
the Bonita Clinic as it is in Lee County and Lee County transports
to NCH 90% of the time. Doug Greenfield will call Bonita to make
sure they are aware that the Lee County unit is closer and able to
transport to NCH. If dispatched there, continue responding, but
ask Emergency Control if Lee County has been dispatched as it is their
district.
5. The North Naples facility will be opened soon. Doug Greenfield has
assured us that we will have cable, covered parking, and water fa-
cilities . The Doctors lounge will be available 24 hours for use as
a T.V. room.
6. Med 8 with PL off is the national dispatch frequency. Should you be
transporting out of county and get in trouble, Med 10 PL 3 will reach
Lee County Control. Contact them and they will advise how to contact
the individual hospital.
7. Doug Greenfield discussed the conference he just attended. One of the
topics covered at Clinicon was stress and the ways it manifests itself
in employees (excessive drinking, use of drugs) and the way to deal
with this stress . Doug Greenfield feels this is an important enough
issue to warrant checking into the availability of a psychiatrist or
psychologist for EMS employees should they feel the need.
8. Skip is still expected to return in October and in the interim there
will be no temporary Administrative Supervisor.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:00. The next meeting will be on August 16,
1984 at 9:30 AM at EMS Headquarters.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue Keny
