Sue Lemay, Jorge Aguilera
GUESTS PRESENT:
Doug Greenfield, Doug Cameron, Diane Flagg, Jeff Page, Bill Griffin,
Walter Kopka, Rich D'Orazio
OLD BUSINESS
The Training Officer position is still open as of this date.
The Golden Gate Fire Department has agreed to fix the window and the
hole in the wall when they do the rest of the building.
ARA cannot get the type of oil we use in the easy pour spout.
The radio in Truck 8 is still not working properly. EMS has ordered 5-
6 new radios that will be in around December. One of them will be
earmarked for Truck 8. Hopefully, this will solve the problem.
The Director of Hendry County EMS, Hendry County Correctional
Officials and Bill Griffin met to discuss the ambulance problem.
Hendry County Correctional Institute would like us to take over
ambulance transports. Bill Griffin said no, but Hendry County EMS
could take over Immokalee. They said no. We will not respond to
their area unless we are requested by Hendry County EMS for mutual
aid.
Please make copies of your recertifications for Bill Griffin as soon as
you receive them. Remember, this is your responsibility according to
EMS SOP.
Don Eckert was voted Paramedic Of The Year and Marty Ginter was
voted EMT Of The Year. Congratulations to both.
Randy is getting estimates on a larger plaque for the Phonex Award.
Randy and Doug Greenfield will go to Trophy World to pick out the
plaque.
Helen Ortega and Randy Carroll are the new permanent Advisory
Council Members. Frank Millot and Melitta Beakbane are alternates.
Several people have expressed a desire to become nationally
registered. Pat Maahs has all the information and will work with
anyone interested on setting up a tentative date for the course.

Officer Paul Russo of the City PD will be giving lectures on legal
testimony the end of November or the first of December.
NEW BUSINESS
November 7th, 8th and 9th will be the balloon races at the airport.
This is a national event that Good Morning America will cover on their
show the morning of the 7th. We are expecting to see an attendance of
50,000 people. We will have two ALS ground units and one medic for
506. Sign up with Bill Griffin if you would like to work this "very
special" assignment.
We expect our new disel truck around March 1987. If we like the way
the disel performs, the chassis on trucks 1, 3 and 4 will be converted
to disel in Fiscal Year 1987/88, as they are scheduled for new chassis
anyway.
Doug Greenfield stated dopplers are not practical for our short
transport times. However, he said he will consider dopplers for both
units in Immokalee and 506.
Rattlesnake and 951 will be handled by 504 now instead of 507. 504
will handle 951 to Rattlesnake.
The vendor of the 16 guage abbocaths that we use has quit making the
1/4" length. Sally will look into another brand since the majority
likes the shorter abbocath.
A pair of large scissors will be placed on each unit in a standarized
cabinet. Please take care of them.
510 is tentatively scheduled for a two man unit starting December 1st.
This will eliminate those long rides to Naples back to back by the same
unfortunate crew.
The crews would like the suspension looked into on Truck 5. The
truck is a very rough ride.
We have been having a real problem with hoses lately. The pressure
builds up in the hoses causing the hoses to burst. Someone suggested
a pop-off valve for the hoses.
While in school or state certified, new paramedics may perform ALS
procedures when with a "County Certified Medic." They cannot attend
PALS or ALS patients.
You may get this wonderfully smelling shampoo ( Kwell) at the ER. See
Pat Hedrich or Marty Ginter at NCH.
A recert class on the new ACLS standards will be offered in January or
March. The EMT Refresher Course is scheduled for February 1987.

The BTLS is scheduled for April 1987.
If you give a drug (nitro, lidocaine, etc. ) the charge is ALS even if
you use the patient's. A IV line is an ALS procedure. Heparin locks
are PALS. There is no charge for nitro.
Trauma Score will be on the new trip tickets.
Per Sally, when you receive your weekly supplies, make sure you date
them and place them to the back of your cabinet.
Bill Griffin and Randy Carroll will work together with Sally on
updating the inventory sheets. They will be completed in two to three
weeks.
EMS will be initiating the phasing out of part-time employees sometime
in the near future. EMS would like the full-time staff to be more
available as there will be more overtime available.
Certain employees have been abusing their sick days. Doug Greenfield
and Bill Griffin will start zeroing in on those individuals and it will
be a Class I violation in your file. Be responsible with use of sick
time.
Remember those survey sheets we filled out with our checks? They
showed we are not living above our means, but most of EMS road
personnel are working a second job to take up the slack. This
concerns Doug Greenfield. He is hopeful that by letting part-timers
go, full-time personnel will be getting more overtime.
505 station needs an outside bell ringer for the phones. You cannot
hear the phone when outside in the bay. Also, they need lights over
the three phones in the living room and bedroom to be able to
distinguish which phone is ringing.
Due to the rash of accidents that road personnel has been involved in,
if you have an accident while driving a county vehicle, you may be
required to attend the EVOC course as a refresher as soon as it is
made available. There is a memo out explaining this matter.
There is a question as to whether Dextrostix are really accurate. The
heat and light breaks them down. Try and go by your patient's
appearance.
The current salary for entry level paramedics in is $19,178 annually
including automatic overtime, meetings and holidays. The exact figures
were not available for the EMTs. See Bill Griffin for that information.
There are new insurance forms. They are the same ones that were
attached to your pay check a couple of weeks ago. You may pick up
additional forms at EMS Headquarter as needed.
Meeting adjourned at 12:30 PM.
