OLD BUSINESS
The county voted nay to paying time and a half for overtime in the
same pay period in which a vacation day is taken. It has been re-
submitted to possibly have part of the shift be paid at time and a half.
The two man unit 510 which was in effect on weekends has now been
cancelled until further notice.
Questions on Worker's Compensation will be discussed by Sherry
Rynders, under new business.
New recliners are in 503 and 505 stations. There will be new
mattresses and, hopefully, no bunks after October.
Bill has been going to meetings with North Collier Health Center and
Naples Community Hospital regarding transports. They will try and co-
operate with routine transports and not call us unless necessary during
the night or during shift change time. There will be a letter out
concerning this, and triage by North Collier Health Center.
NEW BUSINESS
By now, hopefully, everyone has turned in your "Notice of Outside
Employment or Business Activity Form" to Bill Griffin.
Fire Rescue personnel assistance during transport was discussed.
There is already a new memo out regarding this.

Delay in renovation of the Immokalee Station is due to the county not
being able to obtain proper permits. The possible completion date is
August 15. During renovation, air ducts need to be replaced, air may
be off, etc. We are looking into the possibility of going to the
lmmokalee Fire Dept. , Carson Road Station, during this time.
The Immokalee Station will be getting one dumpster, placed away from
the building. It will be picked up once a week. Also, two bug lights
will be obtained, and fly bait has already been scattered around. We
will try to get some window screens. Please try to keep all doors and
windows closed as much as possible.
General feeling throughout the EMS field personnel is to have two ALS
units in Immokalee, which will be phased in by December 1st, 1986.
Remember, however, this is two rotations in (mmokalee. Old news for
paramedics, new for EMT's.
Sherry Rynders explained about Worker's Compensation. State law says
seven days must pass before starting to collect worker's compensation.
During that seven days, annual leave or sick time must be used. If
none available, there will be no pay. These seven days are calendar
days, not work days, including weekends. She is still looking into
disability policies for us.
The situation with donating sick time to other employees on a voluntary
basis is an issue which must be decided upon by the County Manager
on an individual basis.
1 . The request for curtain and small reading light for 502 was
made. The air conditioner is being checked again.
2. Door mats for all stations was requested.
3. All lights in the parking lot have been out at the 501 station.
520 or 526 will see that at least the light by our back door is
kept on.
4. A new vehicle has been budgeted to replace #6 in the next fiscal
year.
5. Part-time Property Control Clerk for 20 hours a week to help
Sally has been approved.
6. Training mannikins will be replaced this year.
7. Sometime in the future we will be getting a new tower location
with the capability of having antennas up to 800'.
8. All mobile radios will have backups. Hopefully, We will no
longer have to down a unit for radio problems.

1 Numbers 4, 5, 6 and 8 above are subject to budget approval by the
Board of County Commissioners.
9. While we are discussing radios, remember no FM stereo radios on
while patient is in the back. If it's a long trip, such as
Miami, discuss with the patient if he wouldn't mind a little
quiet music. Also, make sure your radio is not playing while
communicating on truck radio to Emergency Control, etc.
10. New map books have been, or will be issued to each truck.
These will be discussed at next inservice.
11 . There will be two inventory lists now. One for all stations and
one for all trucks. Each truck will also have one kept in that
truck only.
12. 507 will have a refrigerator loaned to us by 520.
13. Cold packs have been changed back to old ones. All that we've
had seem to give up one problem or another.
14. We are looking into new pedi-stylettes.
15. Please try and get endo-locks back if possible. They cost $8.00
apiece.
16. Please call in right away if water problems persist in Immokalee.
17. A new system was voted on for overtime. Details will be out in a
seperate memo.
UNIFORMS: The representative from Martins will be here one day a
week for three weeks in a row in August. You will need to come in
and get measured at that time or no uniforms will be ordered for you.
If you are away, or near death on all three dates, please make prior
arrangements with Sally. These are the only exceptions.
While we are on the subject, please collect all uniforms and belongings
that have been left at stations other than the one you are currently
at. Reasons:
1 . You are working without your full supply of uniforms.
2. There's not usually enough room for the current crew's
belongings; let alone everyone elses.
Advance memos and reminders will be out for August dates of fittings.
REMINDER: Baker Acts and prisoners are the responsiblity of law
enforcement officers. If officer refuses to back you up or transport,
remind them that if the patient wants to walk, you'll open the door and
help him out. Per administration, you are not to put yourself in
jeopardy.

Escorts by law enforcement: Meaning an officer running interference
with lights and sirens ahead of us is not allowed.
High risk for EMS personnel was defeated. 520 advised that he and
the State FACEMS group will keep working on this at state level.
If after 10:00 PM a deputy in Immokalee is not being dispatched to
calls, notify 526. The dispatchers are leaving left and right. Some
of us suggested we could work at the Sheriff's Department as part-time
dispatchers. Dispatchers have also expressed this wish. However, the
Sheriff's Department refuses to allow it. So, work around these
problems and try to get our response times on an even keel. It has
been suggested that a system of familiarizing ourselves with the zones
of our rotation's needs to be implemented.
Suggestions:
1 . Doug Cameron suggested a map class during each shift, even just
thirty minutes a day. Someone give a street, and someone else
name the cross streets. Try to learn numbers in sections also.
2. Ride around in truck with map in hand and get to know the area.
3. 520 suggested we stay at one station two or three months in a
row. This received a unaminous NO from all present.
4. Terry Lichliter also suggested a map game for points to liven it
up a little.
Apparently Marco Island Urgent Care Center convinced a crew to take a
patient back to Everglades, just because the patient had a
transportation problem. This a not permitted per administration.
REMEMBER:
S.U. I .T. (State Undercover Inspection Team) HRS will walk in or stop
trucks and check the truck and your credentials. If this happens
when you are 10-6, notify your supervisor that you need coverage.
They are looking for staffing, equipment, and vehicle compliance with
minimum HRS specifications. Some things they have picked up on
elsewhere have been, faulty lifepaks, all batteries not charged,
expired certifications: $1 ,000 fine for each call that person went on
while certification was expired.
The state trust fund monies is to be used to "Improve EMS care for the
citizen of Collier County." Some suggested uses of these monies:
1 . Training officer and public awareness person
2. Explorer's program

This money comes from a surcharge on all moving traffic violations. A
minimum of $5.00 for each citation written. Any suggestions will be
appreciated for the possible future use of these funds.
If you have anything you want brought up at the County Advisory
Council, please see Terry Ortengren.
Thanks to all for lasting through a very long, long meeting.
