The radio is still not working in Truck 8. In the next two years EMTs will be given the opportunity to go back to school at the county's expense to become paramedics. Doug Greenfield is meeting with Edison Community College to make the paramedic course and anatomy and physiology courses better suited to the State of Florida's needs. The Phoenix award is all ready to go. Vacation time has been changed to productive time as of the last Board meeting. Also relocation fees up to $1,000 has been approved. Consolidation - The Fire Departments like the system that is being run at this time and no changes are seen in the future to move Fire Departments and EMS together. Policy Memo as of March 1st, employees will no longer be permitted to work another job eight hours prior to starting their shift at EMS. This means you must be off your second job by 12:30 AM. Maps are being considered for each station. These will be large and easy to read. 510 now carries their own nitrous. Truck 2 and 7 are very warm on the floor boards where the driver/paramedic sits. A heat insulator is being looked into. February 19, 1987 Page 2 Truck 6 and 10 are BLS units. They can also be used as ALS units. We're getting 7 new adult and pedi sets of MAST suits this year, and 7 more sets next year. They will be separate suits; not one size fits all. Rear View Mirrors will be installed on all vehicles. Truck 9 and any other vehicle that doesn't have one, will have a spot light installed. Doug Greenfield needs to be notified immediately of any problems with Motor Pool on repair of vehicles. Commissioner Glass wrote a wonderful letter about the EMS crew who took care of his mother. Dopplers will be leased for one year to see if they work. Try to have bottles labeled properly for supplies. Narc keys (gray box) are to be on the medics keys only - not on the drivers set. Just a reminder - presigning the narcotic sign off sheet is a no-no. New employees can get the HEPTAVAX vaccine. Contact the Health Department for a TB test. The carpet and sofa at the Immokalee station will be cleaned. Also the phone line in Immokalee doesn't ring in the bedroom. Zone units will not transport out of county unless as a last resort. The jail will try to build a ramp to make moving patients easier. There is a new ruling from the Sheriff's Dept. If any prisoner blows more than a 3 blood alcohol, they must be transported to a medical facility. Whether or not they are transported by EMS is up to the Paramedic. Patient must be stable. Trip tickets are going to be revised. Dr. Champion has simplified his trauma score for prehospital use. Bill Griffin is working on these changes. Monthly station rotation will be 501, 502, 503, 504, 505, 507, 510. The Immokalee Clinic is open on Saturday, but you have to knock on the door. North Collier Health Center has been sending patients by ambulance just because they don't have cab fare. Any problems with this, let Bill or Doug know. February 19, 1987 Page 3 Doug Greenfield has new bids in hand for new vehicles. Does anyone have any ideas for a short trip ticket for 506? Apena monitor reports - Suggestions being taken on whether we really need them and also a system on when they should be discontinued. Some crews in Immokalee want yellow back up lines painted in the bays. Bill Griffin reminded us that we are to have our partners backing us up. Also the old bedroom hasn't been painted. Marco Island Fire Department wants EMS back. Doug Greenfield stated we would not be going back in the near future. New mattresses were to be here in October. What happened? 503's portable in the station has not been transmitting out of the station. Green kits - A new idea is to sew vinyl flap on pockets so you can see what's in each pouch. Marco Island Fire Department has these and they are nice. Thumpers may be able to be readjusted to meet the new CPR guidelines. Personal phone calls at stations are to be kept to a minimum. The new med boxes are laid out with pre-filled syringes. They look great. 508 will be part-timers only. Do not abuse your sick time. Management will not tolerate it. Outside Employment Forms need to be turned in to Bill Griffin. The Employee Advisory Council will be taking names for the new council. Per Doug Greenfield, please retrieve endo-locks from patients brought to the hospital. We are unable to buy them anymore and will be going to a velcro type throw away. If a Medical Examiner case, then tape ET in place where you take your lock. If leaving an emesis basin from your truck with a patient, ask NCH to give you one back. 503 has received a new couch. Meeting adjourned at 1245.
