Minutes 09/27/1989 ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING 9-27-89
PRESENT: T. HAMILTON, W. KOPKA, R. GARCIA, J. ORTEGA, E. WATSON,
R. D'ORAZIO, J. AGUILERA, F. SURIANO, G. BARTON, D. FLAGG,
C. WILSON, J. PAGE.

OLD BUSINESS:
PEER REVIEW BOARD - HAS BEEN ELECTED AND CONSISTS OF THE
FOLLOWING PEOPLE: T. HAMILTON, D. ECKERT, S. EPRIGHT, AND G. LESHINSKY
AS ALTERNATE. THE BOARD WILL GET TOGETHER AND DECIDE CRITERIA AND
PROCEDURES FOR THE BOARD.
FLIGHT MEDIC: A TEMPORARY PROCEDURE WILL BE TO ASSIGN A DESIGNATED
FLIGHT MEDIC ON A SHIFT BY SHIFT BASIS UNTIL PERMANENT APPOINTMENTS
ARE MADE. MEDCOM 5 WILL MAKE THE TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS STARTING
OCTOBER 1. A PART-TIMER WILL BE COVERING ON THE GROUND UNIT WHILE THE
FLIGHT MEDIC IS ON DUTY FOR MED FLIGHT.
PICNIC: PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO BORROW THE LARGE B-B-Q GRILLE FROM THE
S.O. FOOD WILL BE PURCHASED USING THE MONEY FROM THE GOLF TOURNAMENT.
NEW BUSINESS:
EMS REORGANIZATION - GEORGE BARTON OUTLINED A PROPOSED
REORGANIZATION OF THE DEPARTMENT. IT INCLUDES THE ADDITION OF 3
SUPERVISORS WITH THE INTENT THAT ONE SUPERVISOR WILL WORK ON A ROAD
UNIT WHILE THE OTHER IS AT HQ. THE SUPERVISORS WOULD ROTATE
ASSIGNMENTS BETWEEN ROAD AND OFFICE DUTIES. ADDITIONALY, THE CURRENT
ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF MAY BE ASSIGNED NEW RESPONSIBILITIES.
GEORGE WILL BE DISTRIBUTING A SEPARATE MEMO OUTLINING THE DETAILS OF THE
REORGANIZATION.
EMS FOUNDATION - THE CIVILIAN EMS ADVISORY COUNCIL IS LOOKING INTO
FORMING A NON-PROFIT ENTITY CALLED THE EMS FOUNDATION. IT WILL BE A
FUND RAISING ORGANIZATION FOR EMS PROJECTS.
SMOKING IN STATIONS - A SUGGESTION WAS SUBMITTED TO BAN SMOKING IN ALL
STATIONS. COUNTY POLICY ALLOWS THE DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR THE FINAL SAY
IN THIS ISSUE. BY A 4 - 1 VOTE TO BAN SMOKING IN ALL STATIONS, THE
COUNCIL WILL FORWARD THIS RECOMMENDATION TO THE DIRECTOR.
