Minutes 08/29/1989 EMS ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING August 29, 1989 Present: Jorge Aguilera Rich D'Orazio Pat Hedrich Walter Kopka J. Ortega Glen Alderfer Ann Hare George Barton Bill Griffin Diane Flagg OLD BUSINESS Station 6 water - No problems since repaired. The water cooler will remain. Peer review board - Ballots will be available in the supervisors office. Please circle your one selection and place it in the box. Voting ends at 5:00 pm on September 13 . Employee of the Year - Ballots are in the supervisors office. Please circle your selection and place it in the box. Voting ends at 5:00 pm on September 13. In the event of a tie, a run off will be on September 14. Hurricane plans - No final plans have been set. Presently families can move to the Golden Gate Community Center during a category 1 or 2 storm. Flight paramedic - No responses have been received for proposed criteria for the program. Present plans have been approved to have part-time employees work during the hours the flight medic is on duty for med-flights. At night, the flight medic would return to a road unit and the part-timer would be off duty. NEW BUSINESS Jumpsuits - The flight suits are acceptable to wear on road units provided they are blue or black and have the reflective tape attached. S.O.P. - The S.O.P. is being revised. If you would like to participate, contact Rich D'Orazio or Jorge Aguilera. Exit lights in stations - Glen Alderfer is checking to see if a lower wattage bulb is available for the Immokalee station. Extrication box contents - The purple extrication boxes should contain: 2 orange, 2 yellow, 1 red nec-loc, 6 straps and 2 (not 4 ) sandbags. Employee evaluation system - After the meeting with the County Manager, the following evaluation system was developed and presented at the meeting: Anniversary date: Cost of living 5% Merit: Meets standards 0% Excellent 2 .5% Superior 5% Possible Total: 10% Two options exist to obtain the merit increase: 1. Yellow county form with your job description as the evaluation criteria. 2. Yellow county form with your job description and modified pay for performance criteria. Final approval is pending for the above system. Zone coverage and dispatch - A simplified zone coverage system will be distributed in the near future. Within the next several months, Medic 66 will become Medic 7, Medic 33 will be Medic 8, Medic 22 will be Medic 9 . These changes are not yet in effect. EMS picnic - The picnic will be 10/21 and 10/22 at Wiggins Pass Park. Lunch meat platters will be provided. Bring a covered dish. Further details forthcoming. EMS week - Crews will be going to the elementary schools to give a presentation to first graders. Details and schedule forthcoming. New vehicle - Truck 13 has been approved and will be ordered soon. New station - An EMS station (Medic 9) is planned for 1989. Medic 9 will be an ALS day car around January, with 24 hour coverage later in the year. EMS grant money - The money received from the state is given to the Board of County Commissioners for use in improving EMS within the county. The Board has given EMS the distribution responsibility of these funds. The first year bought the first aid kits for the Sheriff' s Office. The second year was used to purchase two new EMS units. The third year is for the automatic defibrillators for fire departments. The next years funds have not been committed. Uniforms - Effective October 1 a new uniform policy will take effect. Separate memo to follow. Rider curfew - Riders are permitted after 10:00 pm provided both crew members and Medcom 5 agree. Lifepak paper - The new paper has a wax coating which builds up on the roller, causing improper EKG printing. Please clean the roller with alcohol every Wednesday or whenever you experience the problems.
