Marco Island Executive Airport Business Activities Summary 2013 Business Description Marco Aviation has served the Naples and Marco Island communities for the past 25 years providing air charter service to Key West, FL and to destinations in the state of Florida.Marco Aviation is a FAA certified part 135 on demand air taxi(charter)operator allowing for charter operations in the domestic 48 states and internationally to the Caribbean.In addition to a Cessna 310 light twin dedicated to charter operations,the company owns a Cessna 172 for aircraft rentals and flight training. For the month of January 2013 the charter operation made 22 flights to Key West,taking 51 passengers to Key West from MKY. Air Expeditions is an FAA certified seaplane tour operation serving southwest Florida resorts and locations providing 30 minute and 1 hour scenic tours of the coastline,estuaries and inland water locations in De Soto, Charlotte, Lee and Collier County. Seaplanes allow for unique water landing/take-off capabilities,in effect creating their own airport environment near water accessible resorts and restaurants.The seaplane is a Maule MX-7 configured on Wipline 2350 amphibious floats. Currently Mr.Dellaert manages both companies at the Marco Island Executive Airport terminal office. Marco Aviation has(3)management staff(as required by FAA regulations), (2)charter pilots,(2)flight instructor pilot,(1) repairman-facilities manager. Business and Branding Goals for 2013 Mr.Robert Dellaert of Air Expeditions has purchased Marco Aviation from Robert and Peggy Villard as of January 4, 2013. The motive for the purchase is to combine the charter certificate under Air Expeditions brand and start developing a seaplane centric charter services based out of Marco Island Executive Airport. Tourists looking for excursions and activities in Marco Island are not aware that there is an airport near their vacation destination. Local advertising efforts will work towards raising awareness of the airports location(to Marco Island)and services that that Air Expeditions/Marco Aviation can offer. Collier Airport Authority Support The Collier County Airport Authority has been very supportive in the acquisition and has provided assistance in making a smooth transition of ownership occur at the airport. Air Expeditions-Marco Aviation is the only commercial operator on the field that has an office in the terminal that is attended daily from 830 to 530 PM. In addition to the terminal office,the company leases(2)T-Hangars and(1)garage for aircraft storage and maintenance. Future Growth The charter certificate(a"basic" 135 certificate)can operate up to(5)aircraft and(5)pilots.This limitation is only impeded by the lack of support facilities at Marco Island Executive Airport.Currently there are no hangars to support maintenance and storage for a larger commercial operation effort.Air Expeditions is currently working with the FAA to develop a seaplane instruction-currency capability that will be offered to the national audience of FAA inspectors. Runway Resurfacing and Airport Closure Airport closure at any time is not good for business—but is necessary for improvements.Nevertheless closure will have a negative impact on business for the business(Fantasy Fest week—last week of October). Without any mitigating efforts for continued business operations during the anticipated closure,an estimated loss of$50 to $80,000 in revenue may occur. Marco Island Executive Airport Business Activities Summary 2013 Seaplane Base Development—the Lake north and adjacent to MKY airport is a ready-made resource currently being utilized by seaplanes. Air Expeditions encourages the Airport Authority to include seaplane base development as part of the airport master plan. A seaplane base in Collier County would put the airport on the map as the only seaplane base facility in SWFL(the closest is Jack Brown's seaplane base—Winter Haven, FL). A seaplane base would allow support for"straight floats"(as opposed to amphibious which require more maintenance and have a weight penalty)seaplanes and larger commercial seaplane presence in the region. Commercial Maintenance-Storage Hangar—The airport neecjsa larger maintenance hangar to support continued maintenance of a variety of aircraft that come to MKY. A hangar would support a larger commercial charter presence at the airport. A larger hangar would allow for incubator opportunities and apprenticeship programs with local high school and community colleges(aircraft maintenance and management). Terminal Facilities to Support Flight Training—Currently there are no facilities to support flight training at the airport. Several independent instructors and our instructors have no class room or training facilities to train pilots. Summary 2013 will be a year of transition and growth for both companies.With economic recovery comes more discretionary income for vacation and leisure travel.The uniqueness of seaplane operations combined with an established charter operation allows for the possibility of charter operations that are only conducted in the Pacific Northwest—allowing for a service totally unique and distinct from other transportation choices in SWFL area. Airport closure will have a negative impact on business at MKY,however if more emphasis can be put on seaplane base development in the area—flight operations can be continued using the existing available resources in the area. Many public-private opportunities can be leveraged to make Marco Island Executive Airport a model example of how an airport can make a positive contribution to the community of Marco Island and Naples.
