Dear County Commissioners,
Please be advised that I no longer wish to serve as a member of the Collier County Airport Advisory Board. We
not only were not included or even advised of the recent actions of the Commission, but what we have done in
the past for the airports in the County has not been appreciated. You have removed a competent leader of our
board because of apparent spite and I want no part of political and spiteful actions. I have been a volunteer in
many organizations in New England and here in Collier County and have never been treated in this manner. My
time and efforts can be used to better purposes.
Sincerely,
David R. Gardner

Chris,
As you have noted to the commissioners, there is a huge economic benefit derived by the county
businesses from the airport activity. FDOT says around 25M a year, I would use a figure of half that for
practical purposes. That comes to over 12 million dollars a year. How much has the tourist development
council accounted for, with people driving $25,000 cars as compared to the 10 million dollar jets of the
airport users? Also, does the tourist commission have to pay back their annual salaries? No.

We must educate the commissioners to those facts, and also that very few public airports in the country,
including the large ones such as SWF, report a profit. The profit lies in the business and it's money that
the airport generates. To show how the users bring money to this area, take the case of the jet landing at
MKY with a passenger, and when the large car with the family arrived to meet their guest, out came the
family dog they sent for. When people like that are the high-end users of our airports, especially MKY
and increasingly IMM, these airports certainly more than pay for themselves.
