AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 5-17 OF
TilE CODE OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA TO
EXCLUDE DOGS FROM THE'BEACHES OF ~{E
UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF COLLIER COUNTY,
FLORIDA WIY~ EXCEPTIONS FOR CERTAIN
POLICE AND SEEING-EYE D~S.
WHEREAS: the beaches of Collier Cdunty are a valuable
source of recreation for the citizens, visitor~ and families
of Collier County, and
WHEREAS: it is desirable that these beaches be maintained
in a clean, healthful, sanitary and safe condition; therefore
BE XT ORDAINED by the Board of County Commissionors of
Collier County, Florida that the title of Section 5-17 and ·
Su'b-sections (a) and (b) of Section 5-17 be revised to read
as follows:
SECTION ONE:
Sec. 5-17 prohibitedl, dogs upon beachest running at large,
specific locales, female dogs, chasing ~ehicles, damage to
proporty, viscious dog. Xt shall.be unlawful for the owner,
possessor, person in control or person with the right to
control a dog:
(a) To permit, allow or suffer such a dog to be:
(1) Upon a beach of the unincorporated areas.

unleashed;

(1) To run at large within any subdivision
of Collier County, a plat of which has
been filed in the public records of the
County, with the exception of all units
of Golden Gates Estates Subdivision.
To run at large in any park, or to
enter upon any beach in this County
or upon any public playground; pro-
vided, however, that this subsection
(b) shall not prohibit a person from
walking or exercising a dog in a
public park or on a public street
when s.uch dog is on a leash or other,-
wise under the immediate control of
its owner ~nd proper safeguards are
taken to protect the public and
property from inJur~ and dsmmge from
said dog.

SECTION TWO:
Should any section, sub-section, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance be held invalid it shall
be severed and not invalidate amqV'other part of this Ordinance or
Code. .
Should any.part of this Ordinance conflict with other law
the more restrictive shall appl~..
SECTION THREE:
This Ordinance shall take effect upon receipt of official
acknowledgement from the Department of State of the State of
Florida that this Ordinance has been filed.
