4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, Florida.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Minutes of the September 9, 1992 and November 10, 1992 meetings of
the Black Affairs Advisory Board were approved as prepared.
DISCUSSION WITH COUNTY COMMISSIONER TIM CONSTANTINE
Commissioner Constantine discussed the Department of Equal Opportunity
proposal with the Black Affairs Advisory Board. Commissioner
Constantine indicated that there will be questions from the Board of
County Commissioners and the public concerning duplication of services
with federal and/or state agencies that deal with discrimination,
housing, etc. He suggested identifying specific problems in the
proposal and documenting how the Department of Equal Opportunity would
resolve these problems. Commissioner Constantine supported
Commissioner Saunders' statements to the BAAB in November, 1992
regarding reducing the cost and scope of the proposal to be sensitive
to budget and economic concerns. Board members communicated their
thoughts and opinions regarding the need for the Department of Equal
Opportunity to provide for local resolution of local problems.
Commissioner Constantine was asked to review the proposal and provide
comments, suggestions, etc. regarding the information contained and/or
desired in the proposal. It was suggested that Commissioner Saunders
also provide this information. Tom Whitecotton will contact Comm-
issioner Saunders about this matter.
REVIEW OF APPLICATION FOR BAAB VACANCY
The resume of Carey Garland was reviewed and the Board unanimously
recommended his appointment to the BAAB. This recommendation will be
forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for confirmation in
late December, 1992 or early January, 1993.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
It was decided to conduct the election of officers in February, 1993.
pLD BUSINESS
Henry Tribble inquired about the follow-up by the Board of County
Commissioners regarding four (4) legal questions he submitted in
conjunction with the Department of Equal Opportunity proposal. Tom
whitecotton will follow-up on this matter.
BAAB members also discussed updating the proposal and considering the
individual comments of the commissioners in their submission. It was
decided that this matter would be discussed at the January, 1993 BAAB
meeting.
