The meeting of the Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB) was called
to order at approximately 7:20 PM at Building F, Third Floor Board
Room, Naples, Florida.
BLACK AFFAIRS ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERSHIP
Three (3) applicants for the Black Affairs Advisory Board were
present at the meeting. Mr. Cambridge explained the purpose of
BAAB and asked each applicant several questions regarding their
backgrounds, interest in serving on the Board, etc. No formal
action regarding membership was taken at this time.
HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION PROPOSAL
Mr. Tribble, BAAB Chairman, advised that the Collier County Board
of Commissioners denied the request for a workshop. Mr. Tribble
is in the process of polling each commissioner to determine their
support for the Human Rights Commission proposal. Mr. Tribble has
met with CURE and anticipates their support.
The Human Rights Commission concept was reviewed with BAAB members
and the visitors in attendance. Anna Rodriguez advised that the
Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB) were concerned with the
petition which was drafted by Mr. Tribble. It was felt that more
information regarding the purpose of the proposal should be
included in the petition. Additionally, there was concern that
the Human Rights Commission concept may be used by the Board of
County Commissioners to consolidate the Black and Hispanic Boards
without funding. After considerable discussion, it was agree;d
that BAAB members would attend the next meeting of the Hispanfc
Affairs Advisory Board on June 25, 1993 to coordinate efforts and
share information.
