HISPANIC AFFAIRS ADVISORY BOARD
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION
The Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board was created in 1991 by the
Board of County Commissioners to identify issues common to the
Hispanic Community in Collier County, and make recommendations to
the County Commissioners so that they could make decisions and
implement corrective measures as deemed necessary. Volunteers from
different areas of the County request from the Commissioners to be
appointed to serve on the Board during specific terms.
In the past the HAAB joined efforts with the Black Affairs
Advisory Board in the preparation of a proposal to create a Human
Rights Commission which was declined by the Commissioners in two
separate occasions. with the purpose of opening a direct line of
communication with the Hispanic community, the HAAB was authorized
to establish a "HISPANIC HOTLINE" which will allow anyone to call
anytime (English/Spanish); and leave a message which will be
returned by members of the Board. This will help the Board better
serve it's mission as stated by the original ordinance which
created the Board in 1991.
Currently the HAAB in tune with it's mission, voted to
initiate an outreach effort in the Hispanic Community along these
lines:
I) To bring awareness of it's mission to the general public
specially the Hispanic Community of Collier County.
2) To stimulate participation of everyone in community
affairs.
3) To gather data relevant to issues and problems directly
affecting the Hispanic Community in Collier County.
4) To adequately document recommendations to the County
Commissioners for the proper implementation of solutions.
To accomplish this goal the HAAB scheduled a series of
meetings to be held in different locations across the County,
including workshops and planning sessions. The first meeting will
be held in the Golden Gate Community Center Thursday February 29,
1996 at 7:00 PM, and the second will be in the Immokalee Community
Park Thursday march 28, 1996 at 7:00 PM. To facilitate
communications, members of the Board will help translate in Spanish
in all meetings when necessary. Future meetings are schedule in
Naples, North Naples, East Naples and South US 41.
Everyone is welcome attend and actively participate in all
meetings. This Board like any other organization, will better serve
the best interest of the Community if everyone gets actively
involved.
