Resolution 1992-009 ~ 1 1992 RESOLUTION NO. 92-9 A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, OPPOSING ANY ATTEMPT BY THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO SUNSET REGIONAL PLANNING COUNCILS WITHIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. WHEREAS, Collier County, is a member of the Southwest Florida Regional Planning council; and WHEREAS, Collier County, has been a participant in the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council's activities since its inception; and WHEREAS, Collier County, has helped fund the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council's activities; and WHEREAS, Collier County, has been a participant in the development of the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council's policies and program, and supported the Council's attempts to develop State policy and implement State programs; and WHEREAS, Collier County, recognizes that the Council undertakes numerous projects and programs that are not State driven or funded; and WHEREAS, Collier County, recognizes that the Council helps enhance local government's ability to act as a partner with the State and Federal Governments. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: 1) Collier County opposes any attempt to "Sunset" or otherwise eliminate Regional Planning Councils in order to "eliminate duplication with the Department of Community Affairs" since there appears to be little, if any, duplication of efforts. 2) It is Collier County's position that such "sunsetting" would be the wrong approach and would eliminate or reduce the ability of local governments to work collectively on areawide issues. 3) It is Collier County's position that the elimination of Regional Planning Councils clearly would DQt" further the objectives of efficiency or cost effectiveness sought by both the . 000 FA!,: 89 legislature and local government. 4) It is Collier County's position that it is in the best JAN ., 1992 interests of the citizens of the state of Florida for the legislature to promote rather than diminish the ability of local governments to assess the effectiveness of the executive agencies of Florida. 5) The Clerk to the Board is hereby directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Collier County Legislative Delegation and Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council.
