RESOLUTION HO. 94-~
A RESOLUTION URGING PROHIBITION OF OFF
SHORE DRILLING.
WHEREAS, Collier County's economic well-being is dependent
upon tourism, predominately centered around the natural beauty
of our beaches and coastal waters; and
WHEREAS, the exploitation of oil
waters off Collier County's coastline
and sensitive natural systems as
well-being of Collier County; and

WHEREAS, Congressman Porter Goss has introduced House of
Representative's Bill 4312 providing for a 10 year moratorium
on all Outer Continental Shelf leasing and drilling off the
coastal waters of Florida, cancels the oil leases around the
Florida Keys, and establishes a scientific review panel to
assess the adequacy of scientific and environmental information
before any new exploration or exploitation is approved; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that the citizens of Collier
County notify the United States Congress of their support for
measures that ~ou~d protect the coastal waters of Collier
County from oil spills and other environmental disasters
associated with the exploration for and exploitation of oil
reserves off the coast of Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners is
directed. to write letters to appropriate congressional
committee chairmen voicing our grave concern over the
specter of commercial exploitation of oil reserves in the
coastal waters of Collier. County, .Florida. It is the
expressed desire of the County Commission that protective
measures sponsored by United States Congressman Porter
Goss and other similar measures be approved by the United
States Congress in order to preserve and protect the
delicate natural environment of Collier County and
Florida.
This Resolution adopted after motion, second and majority
vote favoring same.
