NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BO~D OF CO~TY
CO~ISSIONERS OF COLLIER CO~TY F~RIDA, That:
SECTION ONE:
The "Standard Gas Code, 1988 Edition, with the 1989 and 1990
Revisions," including Appendix B, as published by the Southern

Building Code Congress International, Inc., and as amended herein, is
hereby adopted by reference as the "Collier County Gas Code" to
protect the health, safety, welfare, common interest, and convenience
of the citizens, visitors, and residents of Collier County, Florida.
SECTION TWO:
The "Standard Gas Code, 1988 Edition, with the 1989 and 1990
Revisions", including Appendix B is hereby amended as follows:
CHAPTER I ADMINISTRATION
Chapter I is deleted in its entirety, refer to the Collier
County Building Construction Administrative Code.
All references to Chapter 1 shall be interpreted to mean the
Collier County Building Construction Administrative Code.
CHAPTER 3 ~AS PIPINa INSTALLATIONS
309 INST~LLATION OF PIPES
Add subsection 309.15 to read as follows:
309.15 Protection Against Physical Damage to Piping
Where soil conditions are unstable und settling of
piping or foundation walls or heavy vehicular traffic may
occur, adequate measures shall be provided to prevent
excessive stressing of the piping. Piping shall be buried a
sufficient depth or covered in a manner so as to protect the
piping from physical damage.
Consideration should be given to protecting the piping
from physical damage when it passes through flower beds,
shrub beds and other such cultivated areas.
a. cover Requirements= Underground piping systems
shall be installed with at least 18 inches of cover.
The cover may be reduced to 12 inches if external
damage to the pipe is not likely to result. If a
minimum of 12 inches of cover cannot be maintained,
the pipe shall be installed in conduit or bridged
(shielded).
b. Trenohes~ The trench shall be graded so that the
pipe has a firm, substantially continuous bearing on
the bottom of the trench.
c. Backfilling: Where flooding of the trench is done
to consolidate the backfill, care shall be exercised
to see that the pipe is not floated from its firm
bearing on the trench bottom.
SECTION THREE: REPEAL
Collier County Ordinance No. 89-78 is hereby repealed in its
entirety as of the effective date of this Ordinance.
SECTION FOUR: CONFLICT AND SEVERABILITY
In the event this Ordinance conflicts with any other ordinance of
Collier County or other applicable law, the more restrictive shall
apply. If any phrase or portion of this Ordinance is held invalid
or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such
portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct, and independent
provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portion.

SECTION FIVE: EFFECTIVE DATE
This Ordinance shall become effective upon receipt of notice
from the Secretary of State that this Ordinance has been filed with
the Secretary of State.

of Collier County, Florida this day of 1991.
