CHAMBERS; AMENDING SECTION 603 BY ADDING SUBSECTION
603.6 RELATING TO CONDENSATE DRAIN PIPING;
REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 89-79; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICT AND SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF ~OLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, That:
SECTION ONE
The "Standard Mechanical Code, 1988 Edition wi.th the 1989 and
1990 Revisions", as published by the Southern Building Code
Congress International, Inc., as amended herein, is hereby adopted
by reference as the "Collier County Mechanical Code" to protect
the health, welfare, safety, common interest and convenience of
the citizens, visitors, and residents of Collier County, Florida.
SECTION TWO
The "Standard Mechanical Code 1988 Edition with the 1989 and
1990 Revisions", is hereby amended as follows:
CHAPTER I - ADMINISTRATION
Chapter I is deleted in its entirety. Refer to the
Collier County Building Construction Administrative
Code.
All references to Chapter i shall be interpreted to mean
the Collier County Building Construction Administrative
Code.
CHA~TER 3 ~IR CONDITIONING, HEATING ~ VENTILATION EQUIPMENT
308 EXHAUST SYSTEMS
30G.9 Clothes Dryers
Amend subsection 308.9.1 by adding Provision 5 to read as
follows:
$. In all buildings exceeding three stories in height,
clothes dryer exhaust systems must be designed and sealed
by a registered Professional Engineer or Architect.
CHAPTER 4 REFRIGERATION
404 INST/~LLATION REQUIREMENTS
Amend subsection 404.1.1 to read as follows:
404.1.1 Foundations and supports for condensing units or
compressor units shall be of substantial construction
sufficient to support the load. When used, wood exposed to
the weather shall be pressure treated or approved wood of
natural resistance to decay in accordance with the Collier
County Building Code. All condensing units mounted on a roof
or any other location subject to movement by winds or other
forces must be' tied down at two corners with a minimum of 20
gage hot dipped, galvanized strap or other method approved by
the Mechanical Official.
CHAPTER S DUCTS AND DUCT SYSTEMS
504 DUCT CONSTRUCTION AND INST]tLLATION
Add subsection 504.10 to read as follows:
504.10 Closure System
The closure system must have an approved listing and shall
be used in accordance with the listing and the recommendations
of the board manufacturer.
~05 FLEXIBLE AIR DUCT CONNECTORS
$05.1 ~eneral
Amend subsection 505.1 by adding Provision 5 to read as
follows:

5. Ail flexible ducts shall meet UL181 Class 1 duct
specifications and shall be so labeled. All horizontal
runs of flexible ducts shall be supported a minimum of
every three (3) feet. All vertical runs of flexible
ducts shall be supported a minimum of every six (6) feet.
All connections of flexible ducts, plenums, trunks,
systems or mixing boxes shall use a mechanical connector
and shall be air tight. When Class i flexible ducts are
installed in accordance with the above specifications
there shall be no length limitation.
509 PLENUM CHAMBERS
· Add 509.3 to read as follows=
509.3 All supply and return plenum chambers shall have a
minimum clearance of 4" on all sides for accessibility.
CHAPTER 6 PIPINQ
603 CONDENSATE DRAIN PIPING
Add subsection 603.6 to read as follows:
603.6 Insulation
All condensate lines, except emergency pan drains and blow
through units, shall have a trap in line. The line must be
insulated to prevent condensation. Schedule eighty (80) PVC
pipe may be used without insulation.
SECTION THREE: REPEAL
Collier County Ordinance No. 89-79 is hereby repealed in its
entirety as of the effective date of this Ordinance.
SECTION FOUR: CONFLICT AND SEVERABILITY
In the event this Ordinance conflicts with any other
ordinance of Collier County or other applicable law, the more
restrictive shall apply. If any phrase or portion of this
Ordinance is held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of
competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate,
distinct, and independent provision and such holding shall not
affect the validity of the remaining portion.
SECTION FIVE: EFFECTIVE DATE
This Ordinance shall become effective ugon receigt of notice
from the Secretary of State that this Ordinance has been filed with
the Secretary of State.
