A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS TRANSMITTING COMMENT TO
NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICE ON
PROPOSED RULE, RIN 0648-AV74 RELATING TO THE
DESIGNATION OF CRITICAL HABITAT FOR THE
SMALL TOOTH SAWFISH (ENDANGERED) IN THE
COASTAL BAYS FROM THE SOUTH END OF MARCO
ISLAND TO THE SOUTHERN BOUNDARY OF COLLIER
COUNTY; OPPOSING THE DESIGNATION OF CRITICAL
HABITAT UNDER THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT
FOR THE SMALL TOOTH SAWFISH.
WHEREAS, on January 13, 2009, the Board of County Commissioners met and
discussed the Critical Habitat designation for the smalltooth sawfish; and
WHEREAS, the value of waterfront property and other property located within Collier
County is significantly tied to recreational opportunities and the quality of life offered to the
citizens and visitors of Collier County; and
WHEREAS, Collier County is an environmentally sensitive community, supporting the
value of all marine life, as a part of a balanced ecological system; and
WHEREAS, the National Marine Fisheries Service is proposing to designate the Ten
Thousand Island I Everglades Unit "Critical Habitat" for the Small tooth Sawfish; and
WHEREAS, the County desires to express its concerns to the National Marine Fisheries
Service, as to the proposed rule and its impact on the community.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA that it opposes the designation ofTen
Thousand Island I Everglades Unit as "Critical Habitat" under the Endangered Species Act for
smalltooth sawfish.

this 13th day of January, 2009.
