A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COmITY COMMISSIONERS OF
COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING HOUSE BILL 29
RELATING TO THE LEVY OF A 7 OR B CENT LOCAL OPTION
GAS TAX AND WHICH RESTRICTS THE USE OF THE INCREASED
GAS TAX TO TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING
RELATED TO GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPLEMENTATION.
WHEREAS, Collier County, Florida, currently has an
approximate $50 million funding deficit, based upon Collier
County's Annual Update and Inventory Report for the Capital
Improvement Element of the Growth Management Plan approved by the
Board of County Commissioners in October, 1992, with regard to
growth management mandated transportation projects; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 29 would be of great importance and
assistance as an alternate funding source for transportation
infrastructure related to growth management implementation; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida finds House Bill 29 to be extremely important to and in
the best interests of the citizens of Collier County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
1. The Board of County Commissioners strongly supports the
enactment of House Bill 29 which will authorize the levy of a 7 or
8 cent local option gas tax and which will restrict the use of the
levy to transportation infrastructure related to growth management
implementation.
2. The Clerk to the Board shall send a certified copy of
this Resolution to each member of the Collier County Legislative
Delegation; Florida Association of Counties, P. O. Box 549,
Tallahassee, Florida 32301; and the Economic Development Council
of Collier County, Inc., 4501 Tamiami Trail North, Suite 106,
Naples, Florida 33940.
