MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COLLIER COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CONGRESSMAN
CONNIE MACK, 14TH DISTRICT JOINT WORKSHOP
Naples, Florida, March 27, 2008
LET IT BE REMEMBERED, that the Board of County Commissioners and
Congressman Connie Mack #14th District in and for the County of Collier,
having conducted business herein, met in a WORKSHOP SESSION on this
date at 3:00 PM at the Administrative Building "F," 3rd Floor Collier
County Government Complex, Naples, Florida, with the following members
present:

I. Introductions and Welcome - Board Chairman Tom Henning
Chairman, Tom Henning opened the Workshop at 3.'01 p.m. and announced that
Congressman Connie Mack has been delayed and will recess until his arrival.
Recessed: 3:01 PM
Reconvened: 3:20 PM
Commissioner Henning commenced the meeting with Welcoming and
Introductions at 3 :20 PM.
II. Washington, D.C. Update - Congressman Connie Mack
Congressman Mack thanked the Commissioners for the great working
relationship with his staff in putting priorities in order and also commented on the
following:
. Being a minority in Washington, D.C. creates new challenges in funding
for projects in Collier County.
. Discussions were held on Earmarks in Congress and he will continue
fighting for our share of funds.
. His perspective is on cutting spending in Social Security and other Federal
projects and programs in Washington D.C.
Commissioner Henning commented on the Earmarks in Washington and
Congressman Connie Mack and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart's assistance in
the funding ofI-75.
III. Collier County's Current Community Issues and Concerns
Commissioner Henning expressed his concerns on the illegal immigration
problems and the high costs on local government reflected in study created by
illegal immigration.
Commissioner Halas commented on the tolling of 1-75 and expressed gratitude
to Congressman Connie Mack and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart on their
efforts in acquiring funds for the following:
. Expansion of 1-75
. Their past efforts on the acquisition of additional funds for the study of
Project Development on the 1-75 Everglades Overpass and the Davis Blvd.
1-75 Interchange and the impact it will have on the growth in the Estates
and in Golden Gate.
. The new Emergency Management Center.
. Gordon Pass Bridging and dredging of the Pass and the impact on the
commercial aspect and tourist industry and citizens living in that area.
Congressman Mack remarked on how impressed he was with the Emergency
Management Center and the teamwork and preparedness of all the branches of
Collier County government during the last Hurricane.

Commissioner Fiala reiterated the same feelings Commissioner Halas had
expressed and added how fortunate we are to have a local Congressman in office
that actually listens to Collier County and works with us.
Congressman Mack expressed that there were other avenues to take to get
funding for 1-75 and Collier County should try to avoid tolling the two lanes in
the future.
IV. Proclamation Presentation to Congressman Mack
Commissioner Henning presented Congressman Connie Mack with the
Proclamation.
Commissioner Halas thanked Congressman Mack for the Health Care Access
program helping the less fortunate citizens that do not have help and are in need
of medical attention.
The Physicians donate their time and the patients are being charged according to
their ability to pay.
This is a Cost Share Program awaiting Congressional approval of$327,000 that
will be allocated for Collier County.
Congressman Mack thanked the Commission for their patience and willingness
to work with the District and Washington Office.
Commissioner Halas gave recognition to our lobbyist, The Ferguson Group, for
assisting with communications between the County, Congressman Connie Mack,
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and Senator Mel Martinez.

VI. Adjourn
There being no further business for the good of the County, the Workshop was
concluded by order of the Commissioner at 3:35 PM.
