WHEREAS, April is recognized nationally as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to
raise awareness about sexual violence and support survivors; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 theme, "25 Years Strong: Looking Back, Moving Forward," marks
25 years of progress in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and
promoting prevention; and
WHEREAS, sexual violence affects individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, and
most survivors report knowing the person who harmed them; and
WHEREAS, millions of women and men experience sexual violence in their lifetime,
highlighting the continued need for prevention, education, and support; and
WHEREAS, survivors show great courage in sharing their stories, and advocates and
community organizations play a vital role in promoting healing and justice;
and
WHEREAS, prevention begins with each of us by supporting one another, practicing
consent, and creating environments built on respect, dignity, and
accountability; and
WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month encourages individuals, organizations, and
communities to work together to prevent sexual violence; and
WHEREAS, recognizing this observance helps strengthen awareness, prevention efforts,
and support for survivors; and
WHEREAS, 1125 Years Strong: Looking Back, Moving Forward," is an opportunity for
Project HELP to stand in solidarity with the Collier County Sheriffs Office,
the 20th Judicial Circuit and advocates and communities across the State of
Florida in raising awareness and being committed to a future free from sexual
violence;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that April 2026 be designated as
SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH
