Executive Summary
Add-On Item: Recommendation to rename the County's Ann Olesky Park in Immokalee to the "Ann and Ski Olesky
Park" in recognition of the contributions of long-time Immokalee resident, community advocate, and leader Edward
"Ski" Olesky, whose impact was realized through service and civic involvement, and authorize the necessary Budget
Amendments required for updated park signs.
OBJECTIVE: For the Board to approve renaming a County Park following the guidance of the County policy for
naming a County building, structure, or facility.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Board has adopted a policy for naming a county-owned building, structure, or facility to
honor an individual who has directly benefited Collier County and specifically the area of the facility proposed to be
named in their memory. In the past, the Board has done this by Board-member Executive Summary and a motion to
approve, or through a resident petition signed by 1,000 registered voters.
A Collier County resident and long-time supporter of Lake Trafford and the Immokalee Community. Edward "Ski"
Olesky's tenacity, diligence, and energy were instrumental in advancing his community's interests through his service on
the Advisory Board of the Immokalee CRA, the Tourist Development Council, the Healthcare Network's Board of
Directors, the Immokalee Rotary, and the Immokalee Chamber of Commerce. As well as serving on these boards and
committees, he owned and operated the Lake Trafford Marina for nearly 50 years, and brought holiday joy to children for
years as the town's Santa Claus.
Upon approval by the BCC, this park will be the "Ann and Ski Olesky Park." County staff will use this name in all
subsequent reports and literature.
FISCAL IMPACT: Budget Amendments will be required to update the park signs.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this action.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote for Board
approval. —SRT
RECOMMENDATION(S): To approve renaming Ann Olesky Park to the "Ann and Ski Olesky Park," and authorize
the necessary Budget Amendments required for updated park signs.
