OBJECTIVE: To appoint John McKinnon to the Collier County Citizen Corps, representing the American Red Cross. CONSIDERATIONS: This 9 member committee was established by Ordinance No. 02-56, as amended, to advise the Board of County Commissioners on all hazards preparedness and other related issues; to act as a coordinating agency for activities that support an all hazards approach to threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to Collier County; to assist in the recruitment of volunteers by publicizing and expanding existing community programs; to assist in achieving and maintaining accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program; to facilitate communication between Collier County & State & Federal agencies on all hazards activities, as well as to enable Collier County to identify outside resources such as grants, training opportunities and equipment. The committee members represent various community organizations. Each member shall be considered a liaison between their respective organization and the committee and shall be recommended by their organization to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration for appointment to the committee for a four-year term. A list of the current membership is included in the backup. There are currently two vacant seats on this committee. John McKinnon, as Executive Director of the Southwest Gulf Coast to Glades chapter has committed to serve as the American Red Cross liaison to this committee. APPLICANT CATEGORY DIST. Mr. McKinnon is the Executive Director of the American Red Cross of the Southwest Gulf Coast to Glades Chapter which represents Collier County. We have had a solid relationship with the local Red Cross, and both parties have been committed to growing that relationship. Mr. McKinnon, a champion for the community, recently accepted his position with the Red Cross after serving at the Midwest Foodbank, and has been supporting Southwest Florida for years. The l ocal Red Cross has participated in Disaster Ready Collier County (COAD) meetings, responded to both small and large disasters, aided families displaced by home fires, participated in exercises, and have worked in the community to provide smoke detectors and education on home fires. Partnership between The Red Cross and Citizen Corp has also provided networking and opportunities between the Red Cross and Citizen Corp members. Because of this, I am requesting your consideration and approval of Mr. McKinnon's appointment with the Collier County Citizen Corps Advisory Committee.
