Agenda 01/13/2026 Item # 4C (Proclamation - Designating January 2026, as Human Trafficking Prevention Month)PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, all men, women, and children residing in the United States of America, both U.S. and foreign-born, have the right to individual freedom; and WHEREAS, human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights and a form of modern-day slavery in which individuals experience forced labor, including but not limited to sexual exploitation by traffickers that affects millions worldwide and the vulnerable in Collier County; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Children and Families reports an increasing number of human trafficking cases within our region, underscoring the urgent need for awareness, prevention, and comprehensive, survivor-centered services; and WHEREAS, second only to the illegal drug trade, human trafficking is among the most lucrative crimes worldwide, and Florida has been documented as one of the largest hubs for U.S. human trafficking; and WHEREAS, partnerships among law enforcement, social service agencies, faith communities, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations are essential to strengthening our collective response, preventing exploitation, and ensuring healing; and WHEREAS, the United States Congress passed a resolution declaring that January be recognized as the national month of human trafficking prevention; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that January 2026 be designated as HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION MONTH DONE AND ORDERED THIS 13TH Day of January 2026.
