Agenda 10/28/2025 Item # 4A (National Injury Prevention day)PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Injuries are the leading cause of death and disability to individuals in the United States, ages 1 to 44. Injury is defined as physical harm, damage, disability, or death to an individual. Whether intentional or unintentional, Southwest Florida is committed to reducing these injuries through outreach, education, and awareness to prevent serious harm. Thus far in 2025, Collier County has reported 3,934 injuries, including minor to severe injuries and fatalities; and WHEREAS, Lee Health operates the only Level II trauma center between Sarasota and Miami, which is crucial for handling traumatic injuries in the region and beyond. Lee Health Trauma Services and Collier County work to establish a safe and injury-free environment, as traumatic injuries have recently contributed to an increase in hospital visits in 2025; and WHEREAS, Collier County is committed to creating a safe environment by contributing to the well- being of its residents through participation in National Injury Prevention Day. In this effort, Lee Health is asking government buildings, local businesses, communities, and thoroughfares to shine a green light to raise awareness for injury prevention; and WHEREAS, Hospitals, state agencies, and community organizations are vested in the role of reducing injuries and deaths by promoting safe practices and empowering communities to take action to create safe environments; and WHEREAS, National Injury Prevention Day raises awareness to promote efforts to prevent injuries among all age groups. Lee Health Trauma Services and Golisano Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, local fire departments, emergency medical services, and numerous other area agencies and businesses throughout the five surrounding counties of Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades work together to protect and prevent injuries to all of Collier County’s residents and visitors; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, designates November 18, 2025, as NATIONAL INJURY PREVENTION DAY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 28th Day of October 2025.
