RESOLUTION 89- 35
PETITION CCCL-89-lC COLLIER COUNTY PARKS
AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT REQUESTING
A VARIANCE FROM THE COASTAL CONSTRUCTION
CONTROL LINE (CCCL) FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
OF SIX DUNE WALKOVERS AND DUNE
REVEGETATION AT THREE COUNTY BEACH SITES.
WHEREAS, the petitioner requests II CCCL variance in
order to: 1) construct dune walkovers at three county beach
sites: and 2) remove exotic species from the dune areas and
revegetate with native dune vegetation; and
petitioner requests
a

WHEREAS,
construct six dune walkovers and revegetate the dunes with
native dune vegetation at three county ;,each sites. These
sites are:
a) Bonita Beach Park, with a legal description as
follows: that part of Section 6, Township 48
South , Range 25 East, lying south of the
right-of-way on Bonita Beach Road, north of
Anquilla Lane, east of the Gulf of Mexico, and"
800 feet west of Lely Beach Boulevard;
b) Barefoot Beach Park, with a legal description as
follows: that part of Section 7, Township 48
South, Range 25 East, lying north of the Barefoot
Beach State Preserve, east of the Gulf of Mexico,
and west of the Lely Beach Boulevard extension;
and
c) Vanderbilt Beach Park, with a legal description
as follows: that part of Section 32, Township 48
South, Range 25 East, west of the right-of-way
for Vanderbilt Beach Road, south of North
Gulfshore Drive, north of the Ritz-Carlton
Resort, and east of the Gulf of Mexico; and
WHEREAS, dune revegetation will occur at the Bon1ta
Beach andyanderbilt Beach parks while only removal of exotic
species will occur at Barefoot Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, construction of the dune walkovers will allow

access to the beaches for county residents; ,~nd
WHEREAS, there is an existing, ground~level boardwalk at
the Vanderbilt Beach Park~ Petitioner plans to remove this
"existing structure and replace it with an elevated walkover;

WHEREAS, revegetation of the beach dunes will help to
erosion; and

WHEREAS, removal of exotic species at the Barefoot Beach
Park site will help rid the area of noxious exotics, such as
the Australian Pine, and allow for the growth and expansion
of the native dune vegetation already present on site.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLOR:DA, that variance
petition
CCCL-89-lC for the Collier
County Parks and
Recreation Department is approved subject to the following
conditions:
1. If, for construction of dune walkovers, it is
necessary for vehicles to be on the beach,
petitioner shall apply for a vehicle on the
beach permit, subject to revie-'f and approval
by Environmental Resources Man)gement (ERM),
prior to any construction activity.
2. Petitioner will notify ERM pri~r to beginning
work in front of the CCCL and shall contact
ERM within two weeks following its completion.
