WIlEREAS, S.R. 951 is operating at a highway capacity of Service I.evel E at
peak. periods based on annual average traffic voluma data; ard
WIlEREAS, as an alternate route onto ard off of Ma= Islard, C.R. 92
C:p!rates at a level of Service B ard can han:Ue an increased am:JUnt of traffic
withoot a c:harqe in service level.
WIlEREAS, a reduction in traffic on S.R. 951 shreuld hlprove the highway
capacity level ard the safe l1'<JVement of vehicles north ard sooth on S.R. 951;
especially during peak traffic flow periods ard during llpcaning road construction
activities; ard
WIlEREAS, a reduction in traffic on S.R. 951 should hlprove the safe I1'<lVement
of an increasing l1UlTber of turning l1'<JVernents onto ard off of S.R. 951; ard
NCM, 'IHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY 'IHE EOARD OF roJN.l"{ a:l1MISSIONERS OF
COILIER roJN.l"{, FIORIllI'., that COllier COUnty wishes to pranote safer vehicular
travel patterns ard requests the Florida Deparbnent of '!.'ransportation to evaluate
the operating advantages, feasibility, ard leqality of inrnediately hlplernentinq
the following quide signing on U.S. 41 for an alternate roote between U.S. 41 ard
Ma= Islard:
1. Establishment of an "alternate roote" or "bypass route" utilizing C.R. 92
for U. S. 41 traffic with a destination of Marro Islard; conditions of the
"roote" would be to establish quide ard information signing which would
encoorage use of the "route" by both tJ:ucks ard passenger vehicles but would
not restrict traffic in any direction on either S.R. 951 or C.R. 92 with the
e><c:eption of awlicable bridge weight limits, speed zones, eto.
BE IT F1JRTIlER RESOLVED that COllier COUnty wishes to pranote safer vehicular
travel patterns ard requests the Florida Deparbrent of Transportation to evaluate
the operating advantages, feasibility, ard leqality of future hlplernentation of
one or both of the following restrictions:
1. Establishment of roadway restrictions applicable to all tJ:ucks requiring
special permits for overweight, overwidth, arx:l/or overneight loadings;
roadway restrictions would prd1ibit throoqh tJ:uck traffic requiring special
permits on S.R. 951: the alternate roote would be C.R. 92 at such time as
C.R. 92 is hlproved to han:Ue special permit tJ:uck traffic.
2. Establishment of a twenty (20) ton gross vehicle weight restriction on S.R.
951 for throoqh tJ:uck traffic ard detoor tJ:uck traffic exceeding the weight
limitation to C.R. 92 at such time as C.R. 92 is hlproved to han:Ue such
tJ:uck traffic.
BE IT F1JRTIlER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
Florida Deparbrent of Transportation, District 1.
