Backup Documents 05/13/2025 Item # 4IPROCLAMATION WHEREAS, mental health is critical to an individual's overall health; and WHEREAS, mental health impacts a person's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, affecting their daily lives; and WHEREAS, one in four adults, and one in five adolescents, experience mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders and severe, persistent mental illnesses; and WHEREAS, 50% of mental health challenges emerge by age 14, and 75% by age 24, yet 60% of individuals with identified signs or symptoms do not receive mental health care; and WHEREAS, suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth and adults aged 10-34, with 50,000 lives lost each year, and WHEREAS, early identification and intervention yields the most successful outcomes, nutigating the risks of secondary concerns, such as legal consequences, job losses, and school dropouts; and WHEREAS, through mental health awareness trainings, educational opportunities and preventative strategies, the community can recognize concerns and break the stigma of mental health; and WHEREAS, Mental Health Awareness Month is an opportunity to increase the community's understanding of the current mental health crisis and prioritize their mental wellness to make a positive impact on health and wellness across Collier County; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 2025 be designated as MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 13th Day of May 2025.
