RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER
COUNTY, FLORIDA, ADOPTING THE LOCAL MITIGATION STRATEGY PLAN
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Florida Division of
Emergency Management have requirements for a local and statewide mitigation strategy plan;
and
WHEREAS, Florida Statute Chapter 252 — Emergency Management and Florida
Administrative Code Rule 27P-22 establish the legal framework for local mitigation strategies,
requiring counties to develop and maintain a Local Mitigation Strategy to be eligible for state
and federal hazard mitigation funding; and
WHEREAS, Collier County faces a variety of natural, technological, and human-made
hazards that pose risks to public health and safety, threaten economic stability, and impact the
quality of the natural environment; and
WHEREAS, Collier County has worked with local municipalities and community
stakeholders to develop this strategy to break the repetitive damage and repair cycle typically
caused by disasters and major emergencies; and
WHEREAS, Communities with an adopted mitigation strategy plan will be eligible to
apply for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program & Flood
Mitigation Assistance Grant Program funding; and
WHEREAS, substantial savings may be realized because the costs of mitigation efforts
are less than the costs of recovery and rebuilding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Local Mitigation Strategy
Plan Hazard attached as "Exhibit A" is hereby adopted.
