Dear Commissioner McDaniel, I am a Collier County resident and a member Baker Senior Center Naples. I have been a member of the center for more than 8 years as an individual enjoying activities as well as a volunteer for many programs. Presently I volunteer in the Dementia Respite Program which is a very valuable asset for the community. I’m writing to express my strong support for the center’s request to extend its hours of operation to include a limited number of nights and weekends. The Baker Senior Center Naples is the only place in Collier County that regularly offers activities and programs for seniors in our community, giving us a place to build relationships with people our age. By allowing the center to open two evenings a week and two weekend days a month, you’ll help to make sure seniors, and their families, are able to access services they need when they need it . Dear Commissioner I am a Collier County resident and every week I volunteer at the Baker Senior Center in Naples. This letter is to let you know of my whole-hearted support for the Center’s request to modify its hours of operations to include a limited number of nights and weekends. Not all members are able to spend time at the Center during the current hours it is open and approving the Center’s request for additional hours would provide members with more time to participate in the various groups offered … specifically caregiver support, grief counseling and mental health support. During my weekly volunteer visits, I see firsthand how very important the Center’s many offered activities are for its members. It is wonderful to see how happy the members are to be active and socializing with their peers. Please approve the Baker Senior Center Naples’ request. Thank you in advance for your support. I am writing to express my overwhelming support for the Center’s request to extend its hours of operation to include a thoughtfully limited number of nights and weekends. I would love to be able to offer the Mindfulness Meditation class in the early evening, when many seniors face a long and lonely time. The BSCN is the only place in our County that regularly offers such high quality activities and programs for seniors. Equally as important are the Caregiver Support groups, Grief Counseling and Mental Health Support that are all available here. These essential needs, although often hidden, need to be addressed so our older citizens can continue to flourish as they age. The leadership and staff at BSCN go above and beyond to serve our community. Their excellence inspires volunteers like us to continue to serve and enjoy OUR BSCN. Mr. McDaniel, If I understand your email back to me correctly, that seems awfully odd since I have lived here on Plantation Island since 2008 & the previous sign has ALWAYS been a "Slow No Wake Sign". Any boater with any experience & common sense would know that you don't go on a high on a plane speed along a creek where residents keep their boats docked in the water!!! I certainly know this after being a 40+ year licensed Coast Guard Captain. I feel the sign that was there was over 40 years old. Why now such a drastic change??? Makes NO SENSE at ALL. Dear Commissioner McDaniel, As a Collier County resident and volunteer at Baker Senior Center Naples, I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for BSCN’s request to modify its hours of operations to include a limited number of nights and weekends. Our experience as 14.5 yr caregivers for both my parents (my mother with early onset Alzheimer's and my father with dementia) in the midst of working full time at home along with our own family responsibilities, was the sweetest yet most challenging time of our life. Our family made the decision to do right by our parents and keep them in their most comfortable setting, their home. This decision also ensured their care would be attentive and not part of care facilities where care is shared at care ratios way too high while depleting their hard-earned life savings. We became my parent's caregivers and were frequently finding ourselves spent, depleted, alone, and working our regular jobs when we should have been resting. Support for caregivers is necessary and essential! Our former community did not have any type of support for caregivers and their loved one or a place where seniors were given opportunity to keep their cognition, health, and human connections alive. To say that Naples is fortunate to have such a wonderful place is understated. Until you realize yourself how much something like BSCN would have assisted you, it seems like just a good and noble thing to do. These types of services are the lifeblood of caregivers and their loved ones. Likewise, seniors need all the help they can to help prevent premature cognitive challenges, help keep them physically strong, provide a built-in community and give purpose to their life. By allowing Baker Senior Center Naples additional hours in the evening and weekends, those caregivers who are employed will also be able to participate and enjoy the benefits of services they need. Additionally, this opportunity positively affects the places where these employees work. These companies now have workers who feel supported and they become more effective in their jobs. Please support the request of Baker Senior Center Naples in their quest to operate additional limited hours in the evening and weekend. Let them be there for you when or if you ever find yourself in a position of their services. You will be proud of your efforts in making Naples a more vibrant place for everyone to live! You and other Collier County officials were wise to be cautious a few years ago when permitting the Senior Center to build and operate. But it's now time to reconsider some restrictions you put in place. I volunteer there about three days a week, mostly helping county residents who attend the dementia/respite support program. It's so rewarding. As I drive up Oakes Boulevard from my home in The Vineyards several days a week, I see NO negative impact to those who own those million dollar homes (per Zillow). Most sit back from Oakes about 100 yards; many hidden by walls, gates and heavy shrubbery. Several nice homes are new or under construction, indicating that motorist use of Oakes Boulevard didn't discourage them from heavily investing there. Okay, enough from me. Feel free to call or reply to this enthusiastic, 77-year-old, Baker Center volunteer to discuss further. Thanks for your attention. Ron Beeber 5828 Jameson Drive Naples, FL 34119 313.498.0155
