WHEREAS, domestic violence and human trafficking compromise the safety of thousands of Collier
County citizens with tragic, destructive, and sometimes fatal results; and
WHEREAS, the role of preventing domestic and sexual violence is primarily the responsibility of men;
and
WHEREAS, Gentle’men Against Domestic Violence® (GADV) is an initiative of The Shelter for
Abused Women & Children, which calls on men and boys to be equal partners with women
and girls to end domestic violence and creates a community where women and girls are
valued and safe; and
WHEREAS, GADV supports The Shelter’s Raising Gentle’men program, which works with Collier
County boys and young men to shift social norms away from aggressive and controlling
behavior while encouraging traits of compassion and kindness without risking their
identities; and
WHEREAS, Collier County is committed to taking a firm stand against domestic violence and human
trafficking, and will remain focused on ensuring that all Collier County residents are safe
in their homes, and abusers are held accountable for their crimes;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that March 11, 2025, be designated as
GENTLE'MEN AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY
