Agenda 01/28/2025 Item #16B 8 (Resolution - with Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart for additional County-owned office space)1/28/2025 Item # 16.B.8 ID# 2025-33 Executive Summary Recommendation to approve a Resolution and District Office Lease Amendment with Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart for additional County-owned office space. OBJECTIVE: To continue providing Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart County-owned office space within the Golden Gate Customer Service Center. CONSIDERATIONS: On March 28, 2017, the Board of County Commissioners (“Board”), under Agenda Item No. 16.E.11., adopted Resolution No. 2017-055, approving a Lease Agreement (“Lease”) for Congressman Mario Diaz- Balart (“Congressman”), which allowed him to utilize office space at the Golden Gate Government Satellite Office. Subsequent amendments were approved on June 11, 2019 (Item 16.C.10), July 13, 2021 (Item 16.C.6.), January 26, 2023 (Item 16.C.1), and October 4, 2023 (Item 16.F.6.). This arrangement was established to provide Congressman Diaz-Balart with a local presence in our community. The initial Lease commenced on January 3, 2019, and expired on January 2, 2021, and contained a provision for the Lease to automatically renew pending the Congressman’s reelection. However, the Federal Government requires an accompanying Amendment so that rent may be paid this rental term. The Amendment being presented extends the lease term to January 2, 2027. The Lease between the Congressman and the County has an annual rent of Twenty Dollars. The County is responsible for all utilities, janitorial service, and local telephone service at the leased space. The Congressman will be responsible for all long-distance telephone charges. The leasing of this space to the Congressman serves important public and community interests in allowing the Congressman to have a continuing and expanded presence in our community, and the space no longer needed for its current county purposes. The attached resolution fulfills the statutory requirements of section 125.38 Florida Statutes and authorizes the Chairman to execute the Lease Amendment. FISCAL IMPACT: The annual rental fee of Twenty Dollars ($20) will be paid in full and shall be deposited into the General Fund (0001). GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: This item is consistent with the Growth Management Plan. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote for Board action. - SAA RECOMMENDATIONS: To approve a District Office Lease Amendment with Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and authorize its Chair to execute the attached Amendment and Resolution.
