SV-PL20240007875Request for a variance from the Land Development Code Section 5.06.04.F.9 which requires “On Premises Directional Signs”located internal to the subdivision or development shall maintain a minimum setback of 10 feet from the property line, to insteadallow for directional signs for commercial uses located in the One Naples MPUD MU Tract 1, along Southbay Drive, to be locateda minimum of 5 feet from the property line for the commercial development located at 179 Southbay Drive and 250 Center Street,Naples, FL 34108, also known as Vanderbilt Beach Center Block A Lots 11-32 and Blocks C, D and Lots 1-10, 20-38 of Block B inSection 32, Township 48 South, Range 25 East, Collier County, Florida.One Naples MPUD Sign Variance One Naples MPUD Sign Variance Commercial units face Vanderbilt and Gulf Shore,but parking is accessed off Southbay.Signs are intended to proved direction (for thepubic) to parking for commercial uses (café andWilliam Raveis Realty). LDC Section 5.06.04, Signs in Nonresidential Districts, Subsection 9, reads as follows:9. On‐premises directional signs may be permitted within nonresidential zoning districts intended to facilitate the movement of pedestrians and vehicles within the site upon which such signs are posted. On‐premises directional signs shall not exceed 6 square feet in area. On‐premises directional signs shall not exceed 4 feet in height unless located on the side of the building. On‐premises directional signs shall be limited to 2 at each vehicle access point and a maximum of 4 internal to the development. Internal signs are not intended to be readily visible from the road.a. Directional signs located internal to the subdivision or development shall maintain a minimum setback of 10 feet from the property line.b. Directional signs may be combined into a single sign not to exceed 6 feet in height and 64 square feet in area. Such signs shall require a building permit.NOTE: Each sign shall be setback a minimum of 10 feet from the edge of the roadway, paved surface or back of the curb, as applicable. otal Distance from Signs to Travel Lane: 25’ at minimum•Setback from sign to property line: 5’ at minimum •Setback from sign to BOC : 19’ at a minimum •Setback from sign to Travel Lane: 25’ at a minimum •Request is justified and provides a significant public benefit.•Request, effectively, is to measure directional sign setback (for these signs) from the back of curb (BOC),with a minimum setback of 19’and from the travel lane, with a minimum of 25’.Requested variance:•Does not increase the number or size of permitted signs,•Is consistent with purpose and intent of the County’s “Sign Code”oTo provide minimum control of signs necessary to promote the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of Collier County;oTo lessen hazards to pedestrians and vehicular traffic;oTo preserve property values;oTo prevent unsightly and detrimental signs that detract from the aesthetic appeal of the county and lead to economic decline and blight;oTo prevent signs from reaching such excessive size and numbers that they obscure one another to the detriment of the county;oTo assure good and attractive design that will strengthen the county's appearance and economic base; andoTo preserve the right of free speech and expression in the display of signs.
