Backup Documents 09/10/2024 Item # 4APROCLAMATION WHEREAS drowning is a leading cause of preventable death among children in the U.S., and Florida leads the nation in child drownings, and WHEREAS water safety remains a paramount concern for communities, governmental bodies, educational institutions, and families across Florida irrespective of their educational, racial, or socio-economic backgrounds, and WHEREAS learning to swim and teaching children and adults how to recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies can save lives and prevent tragedies in Collier County's diverse water environments, and WHEREAS proactive measures such as CPR training, safe boating practices, and swift emergency response protocols further enhance the safety and preparedness of individuals enjoying aquatic activities, and WHEREAS the YMCA of Collier County has been committed to promoting water safety through educational programs and initiatives for over fifty years, and WHEREAS the YMCA of Collier County collaborates with local communities to provide affordable and accessible swim lessons, promoting inclusivity and equity in water safety education, NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that September 13, 2024, be designated as YMCA SAFETY AROUND WATER DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS lOt" Day of September 2024. BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA r CHRIS HALL, CHAIRMAN PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, payroll professionals ensure the timely and accurate calculation of payroll for employees and elected officials for the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk of Courts, and the Supervisor of Elections; and WHEREAS, the Clerk of Courts' payroll staff, in coordination with county staff, processed 60,328 payroll checks and direct deposits in 2023, submitted 2,719 W-2s for calendar year 2023, and processed and filed all required quarterly taxes and Florida Retirement Services monthly submittals by the required due dates; and WHEREAS, payroll professionals in Collier County play a key role in maintaining the economic health of Collier County, carrying out such diverse tasks as paying into the unemployment into system, providing information for child support enforcement, and carrying out tax withholding, reporting and depositing; and WHEREAS, the American Payroll Association and its more than 20,000 members have launched a nationwide public awareness campaign that pays tribute to the nearly 150 million people who work in the United States and the payroll professionals who support the American system by paying wages, reporting worker earnings, and withholding federal employment taxes; and WHEREAS, payday is everyone's favorite day; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that September 2024 be designated as PAYROLL AWARENESS MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS loth Day of September 2024. BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA CHRIS HALL, CHAIRMAN PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, 44 million people in the United States are considered food insecure, or lacking consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle; and WHEREAS, food insecurity can affect people from all walks of life, with mons of Americans being just one job loss, missed paycheck, or medical emergency away from hunger, and WHEREAS, limited access to healthy and nutritious food can have a longstanding effect on individuals, especially children, such as negatively impacting health, development, and well-being, leading to increased medical issues, poor academic performance, and delayed developmental milestones, and WHEREAS, Hunger Action Month, which is observed each September, seeks to raise awareness about hunger in America and inspire action by calling on individuals to do their part to end hunger in their communities; and WHEREAS, Harry Chapin Food Bank is the largest hunger -relief organization and only Feeding America partner in Southwest Florida, serving Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Glades, and Hendry counties, and is steadfastly committed to ending hunger in Southwest Florida, and WHEREAS, Harry Chapin Food Bank serves approximately 250,000 children, families, and seniors a month in need through a variety of innovative programs and partnerships aimed at ensuring everyone has reliable access to healthy and nutritious food, and WHEREAS, in 2023, the food bank distributed nearly 12 million pounds of food throughout Collier County; and WHEREAS, more than 44,000 Collier County residents lack consistent access to healthy and nutritious food, including more than 10,000 children, and WHEREAS, in 2023, nearly 16% of children in Collier County struggled with hunger. Additionally, approximately 65% of children in Collier County qualify for free or reduced meals; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that September 2024 be designated as HUNGER ACTION MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS loth Day of September 2024. BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA CHRIS HALL, CHAIRMAN PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, over 27 percent of Florida residents are 65 years of age or older, and falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among Florida's senior population, resulting in significant physical, personal, social, and economic burdens; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that annually there are more than 1500000 hospital -treated injuries from falls among Floridians 65 and older, with medical charges exceeding $2 billion, falls account for more than 75 percent of all fractures treated in emergency departments; and WHEREAS, injuries from falls are a preventable community health problem; falling and the fear of falling can lead to depression, loss of mobility, and loss of functional independence; and WHEREAS, falls prevention education is a critical first step to incrensing public awareness regarding elder falls prevention and home safety; and WHEREAS, cost-effective home modification and community strategies are available to improve safety and lessen the likelihood of falls and the debilitating injuries that can result; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs/Communities for n Lifetime, the Florida Department of Health/Office of Injury Prevention, Florida Statewide Falls Prevention Coalition, and state area agencies on aging, and the Lee County Trauma Services District comprised of Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades, and Lee Counties are working to increase awareness of this issue and encourage Florida residents to take steps to protect those who are at risk of falling, NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that September 22, 20241 be designated as FALLS PREVENTION AWARENESS DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY DONE AND ORDERED THIS lOt" Day of September 2024.
