LAB Minutes 03/20/2024 - MEMBERSHIP MeetingNaples, Florida, March 20,2024
LET tT BE KNOWN that the LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD',s Membership committee met on
this date at 1 1:15 a.m. in the Headquarters Library with the following members present:

The Library Advisory Board met to review and discuss its membership succession plans.
o Ms. Bettinger reminded everyone that Library Advisory Board members have their four-
year terms staggered.o Three current members will have terms expiring at the end of the year.
o Two current members will have terms expiring in two years.. She added that every ten years, the County reviews its districts, and based upon growth,
may revise district border lines as necessary.. Ms. Bettinger stated that she and other current members have been on the Board for
many years, and there have not been new members for some time.. Discussion ensued regarding creating a training/orientation guide for new members.. Ms. Tibbetts reported that she has been working to create an advisory board manual for
the Library.. She added that she will send information to LAB members to review in order to provide
their input on key points that would be helpful to new members.. Board members would like to ensure that the LAB continues to have a team of
diversified members that have varied interests in the Library.. Mrs. Grieve stated that the County is responsible to ensure that applicants meet the
criteria to be on each advisory board system wide.. Mrs. Gagnon added that those applying to join the LAB should have enough interest in
the Library to attend some of the board meetings.. Dr. Hochschild stated that it is beneficial for current board members to talk with people
within their district to help promote applicants that have Library related interests.. Many of the current board members were in book clubs with prior board members.. The County posts press releases to announce vacancies of all advisory boards.. Applications are reviewed by the County Attorney's Office, and those that meet the
general requirements are foMarded to the appropriate Division Director.. The Division Director then provides application information to Advisory Board Members
to review and select the candidate best suited for the position.o Ms. \Mite stated that it would be helpful if applicants could be interviewed in person.. The Board of County Commissioners finalizes the approval of applicants selected to be
on each advisory board.
