P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States, and the third
leading cause of death in Collier County Florida; and
WHEREAS, stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability, and reduces mobility in more
than half of stroke survivors aged 65 and older; and
WHEREAS, the 65+ population accounts for more than 33% of the total population in
Collier County; and
WHEREAS, many strokes can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices and controlling
diseases that increase the risk of stroke such as hypertension, high
cholesterol, and diabetes; and
WHEREAS, new and effective treatments have been developed to treat and minimize the
severity of stroke when administered as early as possible; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the FAST signs and symptoms of stroke and calling 911 without
delay is imperative to the successful treatment of stroke victims; and
WHEREAS, early intervention by First Responders including stroke differential diagnoses
and transportation to the closest stroke receiving hospital without delay is
imperative to the successful treatment of stroke victims; and
WHEREAS, Physicians Regional Healthcare System is committed to the treatment and
rehabilitation of stroke patients; and
WHEREAS, Physicians Regional Healthcare System is a certified Comprehensive Stroke
Center and provides the most advanced treatment for stroke including
Mechanical Thrombectomy;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that May 2024 be designated as
STROKE AWARENESS MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 14th Day of May 2024.
