PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, recognizing the United States Armed Forces and supporting the designation of a
National Military Appreciation Month, raising awareness of the freedom and
security that citizens enjoy today are direct results of the bloodshed and
continued vigilance given by the United States Armed Forces over the history of
our great nation, state, and county; and
WHEREAS, Collier County seeks to be known as Florida's Friendliest County towards Veterans,
therefore, we invite our community to remember the sacrifices of the United
States Armed Forces who have preserved the liberties that have enriched this
nation making it unique in the world community and to remember their family
members who supported their endeavors; and
WHEREAS, to foster and sustain such a commitment is vital for the youth of Collier County to
understand that the service provided by members of the Armed Forces and their
families is an honorable legacy that protects the freedoms enjoyed by citizens of
the United States; and
WHEREAS, on April 30, 1999, the Senate passed 5. Res. 33 (106th Congress), as 'National
Military Appreciation Month', calling on the people of the United States, in a
symbolic act of unity, to observe National Military Appreciation Month in May,
and to honor the current and former members of the Armed Forces, including
those who have died in the pursuit of freedom and peace; and
WHEREAS, it is important to emphasize to the people of Collier County the relevance of the
history and activities of the Armed Forces for this display of patriotism during
May, as we celebrate Victory in Europe (VE) Day, Military Spouse Day, Loyalty
Day, Armed Forces Day/Week, National Day of Prayer, Memorial Day, Navy Day,
Army Day, and Flag bay;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that May 2024 be designated as
NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 23rd Day of April 2024.
