the Twentieth Judicial Circuit in and for Collier County, Florida, for the sum of $130,000. (Commissioner
McDaniel’s Request)

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Autism Collier is involved in advocating for programs that promote positive system
changes that allow persons with Autism to achieve optimum independence, and to promote
innovative programs and practices that improve the quality of life for these individuals; and
WHEREAS, Autism Collier encourages all Collier County residents to actively participate in events
that appropriately recognize and celebrate Collier County's diverse population, including individuals
with Autism; and
WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASO) is a neurological and developmental disorder that
affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave; and
WHEREAS, "Autism Acceptance Month" in Collier County emphasizes the need for public
awareness to promote acceptance, celebrate the differences, and prioritize the inclusion of
individuals with Autism and their families; and
WHEREAS, in 2023, the Center for Disease Control reported that approximately 1 in 36
children in the U.S. is diagnosed with ASO; according to 2023 data, boys are four times more
likely to be diagnosed with Autism than girls; and
WHEREAS, there is no cure for Autism, but a holistic system of therapies and supports can
meet the needs of individuals and their families; and
WHEREAS, "Autism Acceptance Month" also recognizes Florida's public policy accomplishments
concerning people with Autism, as well as identifying the improvements to public policy that are
needed to ensure that all of Florida's citizens with Autism and their families have the capacity
to lead full, productive, and engaged lives; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary and appropriate that local communities in Florida such as Collier
County support the mission and purpose of "Autism Acceptance Month" and encourage their
citizens to recognize and respect this important commemoration;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that April 2024 be designated as
AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS g'h Day of April 2024.
