STRATEGIC PLAN FOCUS AREA(S): Quality of Place Responsible Governance PURPOSE: Increase the County’s ability to enforce the Animal Control Ordinance BENEFITS: Increase number of officers for animal control enforcement efforts and education for compliance opportunities Provide additional certifications, educational opportunities, career advancements, career development, etc. for both ACO and Code Investigators Expand scope of authority for officers/investigators in the field to consolidate enforcement (meaning code enforcement occurs simultaneously with animal control) Allow DAS to focus divisional efforts on shelter operations and the direct care of animals Increase proficiency and expertise in working animal enforcement cases resulting in fewer dismissed cases CURRENT ACTIONS: Marcy and Tom Iandimarino, Code Enforcement Director, are working to identify a clear path forward through a review of DAS working procedures Identify job tasks assigned to ACOs not directly related to animal control enforcement and identify resources needed to transition back to other DAS staff Code Enforcement Director to participate in ride-alongs with ACOs to get an understanding of essential work functions (authored by @Tanya Williams ) Contributors @Tanya Williams @Marcy Perry 3.A.4 Packet Pg. 35 Attachment: Directive-Purpose_Animal Control to Code Enforcement (28160 : Animal Services Advisory Board - February 20, 2024)
