Item 10A to be heard at 10AM: Discussion regarding the use of fluoride in the public potable water supply  distributed by the County’s Public Utilities Division’s Water Department. 2/20/2024 10:31 AM 02/13/2024 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY That the Board discuss whether to continue using fluoride in the public potable water supply distributed by the County’s Public Utilities Division’s Water Department. OBJECTIVE: To consider ending the addition of fluoride to the public water system. CONSIDERATIONS: There is no legal requirement to add fluoride to the public drinking water, but if added, there is a legal limit of 4 milligrams per liter, with a recommended level of .7 milligrams per liter. Although Collier County’s fluoridation program strictly adheres to these standards, it is my belief that we are medicating people without their informed consent. I would like the Board to consider ending this practice. FISCAL IMPACT: Ending the fluoridation program would save the Collier County Water Division approximately $126,000 per year. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with the Executive Summary. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality and requires a majority vote for Board approval. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: That the Board discuss whether to continue using fluoride in the public potable water supply distributed by the County’s Public Utilities Division’s Water Department Prepared by: Dan Kowal, Commissioner, District 4 10.A Packet Pg. 244 02/13/2024 COLLIER COUNTY Board of County Commissioners Item Number: 10.A Doc ID: 27655 Item Summary: *** This item to be heard at 10 AM *** That the Board discuss whether to continue using fluoride in the public potable water supply distributed by the County’s Public Utilities Division’s Water Department.
