MINUTES OF THE COLLIER COUNTY PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE
Naples, FL Nov. 15, 2023
LET IT BE REMEMBERED the Collier County Public Art Committee in and for the County of Collier, having
conducted business herein, met on this date at 3:00 PM in a REGULAR SESSION in the Collier Museum at
Government Center, Naples Florida with the following members present:
Erin Wolfe Bell
Lisa Cataldo-Absher
Ricki Baker - absent
Nora Beyrent
Muffy Clark Gill
Paul Gower
Bonny Hawley - excused
ALSO PRESENT: John Melleky, Arts and Culture Manager
1. Call to order and Roll Call
Ms. Bell called the meeting to order.
A quorum of five was established by those members present in the room.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
3. Approval of Agenda
Ms. Gill made a motion to approve the agenda. Mr. Gower seconded the motion. The motion was
carried unanimously, 5-0.
4. Approval of Minutes
Ms. Gill made a motion to approve the minutes. Ms. Beyrent seconded the motion. The motion was
carried unanimously, 5-0.

5. Staff Report
Mr. Melleky reported that iARTE VIVA! was recognized at the International Festivals and Events
Conference with seven awards:
• GOLD -- Best Multimedia Component, Interview Series Meet the Artists
(Budget Category $100,000 - $750,000)
• GOLD — Best Event / Organization E-Newsletter (Budget Category $100,000 - $750,000)
• GOLD — Most Creative / Effective News Stunt (Budget over$100,000)
• SILVER — Best New Festival or Event (Budget over $100,000)
• SILVER — Best Social Media Campaign (Budget under $750,000)
• BRONZE — TIE — Best Single Magazine Display Ad (Budget $100,000 - $750,000)
• BRONZE — Best Media Relations Campaign (Budget over $100,000).
There were recent events for iARTE VIVA! around Dia de los Muertos including the Celebration at Naples
Botanical Garden on Nov. 4-5. November 18 will have a variety of exhibitions open at Artis—Naples,
including 3 artists as a part of this celebration. In addition, The Face of Immokalee will open that day and
there will be some of the children who have photographs in the installation attend the Community Day.
The Tourism Department has undergone a change with the departure of Paul Beirnes, the Executive
Director. Mr. Melleky is one of the two Interim Co -Directors while the search is taking place for a new
Executive Director.
6. Public Comments
There were no public comments.
7. New Business
a. Project Process and Temporary Art Installations
Mr. Melleky led the group in a brainstorming session to outline the process of a public art project. This
material will be developed into a document and then used to create a flow chart of the process to help
individuals or organizations with planning a public art project.
8. Old Business
a. Bayshore CRA Plan and County Building lists
Mr. Melleky provided these documents to the committee per the request at the prior meeting. The CRA
has money for some public art projects, depending on the priorities of that board.
9. Advisory Board Member Discussion
Ms. Absher asked if there is a city inventory of public art, which will be researched. She also suggested
that a project of statutes placed around the county could be a good fundraiser. Ir was noted that this
was completed twice already —one with alligators and once with turtles.

Mr. Gower asked about the update of various public art projects. Mr. Melleky is updating the form for
the Paradise Coast Sports Complex since it is a donation to County Parks and the Sports Complex, and it
will be internal documentation of the piece. He also asked about the status of Weaving Narratives.
This project is most likely on hold since there are staff changes at Naples Art Institute. He also asked
about the Macaw Statue, which is on hold in the CRA to present to the Board of County Commissioners,
10. Next Meeting- Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the Collier County Museum at
Government Center
There being no further business for the good of the County, the meeting was adjourned by Ms. Bell at
4:36 P.M.
