Opening
Meeting was called to order by Chair Buxton at 10:00 A.M, Pledge was cited, roll call was
conducted, and quorum was met. Minutes from July 21, 2022, meeting was approved.
New Business
• Ashley Maher introduced herself and discussed the creation of a COAD and what they do with
various local non-profit organizations and faith -based groups. These groups are supported at the
state level. When this group gets up and running Josh will reach out to everyone.
0 COAD was approved, minus one vote.
Law Enforcement Update —
Laura Lopez is the new CCSO EM Liaison
• Nothing to report.
Local Mitigation Strategy Updates
William Lang — LMS
• William gave an overview of what LMS group does.
• LMS gets updated every 5 years in the county. The other part of the LMS is the working group
that meets 4 times a year. The working group reviews FEMA specific grant opportunity projects.
The hand-outs show the monies specifically for Ian through the HMGP Grant.
• William handed out a spreadsheet with projects current to today.
• Next LMS meeting is October 201n
Camilo Torres- DOH
• Updated the group on Mosquito Control and the need to be aware of mosquito borne illnesses.
• DOH has been working in the migrant communities to provide immunizations prior to school
starting.
• He mentioned the oxygen generator that they bought.
Mike Shaw —Training and Exercise
Nov 300/400 will be offering more in 2024.
Hurricane exercise
WebEOC this afternoon
Holding another working group meeting for integrated preparedness plan. The State helps us
with this with funding for courses.
G2300 Functional class in Lee County
Heather Mazurkiewicz — NCF
• North Collier Cert had a training.
• Got a grant Volunteer Florida deaf and hard of hearing. They had no one show, so they will try
again next year.
• Meeting on Monday Cert team meeting and teaching the team members what they need to be
taught and what they should be doing, this is due to a recent incident with a volunteer
• Looking forward to revamping and getting their program up getting their Cert program up to
level of professionalism.
Barry
June 3 NC and GN conducted cert training for members and refreshers.
Greater Napes conducting a training in house to better prepare for disaster.
Educate residents before during and after
Verona Walk Cert is now changed to GMRS Radio with repeater in their town center.
Communications have been increased.
Rich
• Hamm Emergency Services of Collier County, working with Josh to get members badges. Then
working with Steven Hall for radio items.
• Wondering how to develop which repeaters until they go down. They are looking for a contact
to help with this.
William
Updated the group of his move from EM to GMD and introduced Jennifer.
CCFCA
• Updated the group on their hurricane plan.
• Working on assets for High water vehicles
• Communications with the County Public Radio System
• Paramedics are rotating through Arthrex and getting some great training.
Spencer Smith - United Way — Collier and Keys
• Reported out on the new program funding program, they have $600,000 in that fund to
Seeing a bunch of variety of projects
Ashley Jones — Salvation Army
Salvation Army partnered with the County on the Hurricane Exercise.
Gave an update on the building that caught fire.
They have partnered with United Way during this time.
Mike Shaw - Emergency Management
• EM will now be fully staffed. Mike introduced Jennifer and mentioned that we have filled
William's position.
• The state will be selecting a new vendor for Everbridge.
• Mike updated the group about what is going on behind the scenes for WebEOC. They are
working with the vendor on the WebEOC.
• Mike and his team are working on Family Assistance Center (FAC). Looking at readiness options
for long-term events.
• Working with stakeholders to develop some coordination and call centers.
Ethan Ticehurst — ARC
• Working on getting their hurricane plan in order.
• Our Chapter in Florida is giving staff.
• Employees will be moved around the nations for various disasters.
Ed Bonilla — RSVP
• The director of this program just retired.
• They have 133 volunteers to replace the ones who have retired.
• New initiative they just piloted. During Ian Ed worked here at the ESC. After that, they went out
to the community and informed them about how to be prepared for a storm. There were 22
members that attended. They looked at evacuation routes, shelters, and mentioned our website.
Walt — USCG AUX
• The Coastguard has the everbridge system, and they must check in before and after the storm.
• Last week Walt taught his last ICS class.
