(Project 33852) OBJECTIVE: To keep the Board informed on major capital improvement projects. CONSIDERATIONS: On April 11, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners provided an after-the-fact approval for the submittal of a Watershed Protection Program grant application to the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The purpose of this grant-funded project is to remove storm-related debris deposited after Hurricane Ian within inland waterways, maintain an appropriate stormwater conveyance system and provide an adequate flood protection level of service. Actual amounts will be determined as work is completed. Construction activities are being conducted by CrowderGulf Joint Venture, Inc (Contract 15 -6365), and the technical services are being provided by Tetra Tech, Inc (Contract 17-7116). Approved areas for debris removal were determined to be: • Gordon River • Henderson Creek and tributary • Rock Creek • Coco Palm Horse • Haldeman Kelly Work has begun and as of Nov. 17th approximately 60% of the targeted debris has been removed from the Gordon River, 14% from Rock Creek and 45% from Henderson Creek. The total cubic yards collected to date are 6,235. FISCAL IMPACT: The total estimated project cost is $10,318,934. Funding has been previously appropriated and is available within Growth Management Grant Fund (1841) and Growth Management Grant Match Fund (1842), Project 33852. A small portion in the amount of $33,878 is not covered by the NRCS grant program due to exhaustion of the technical assistance allowance and is funded through Disaster Fund (1813), Project 50280 as this cost may become eligible for reimbursement under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance Program. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: The project is in conformance with the goals and objectives of the Growth Management Plan and is consistent with the objectives of the strategic plan to maintain and provide infrastructure and asset management.
