Agenda 05/09/2023 Item # 4C (Proclamation - Celebration of Collier County Centennial)4.0 05/09/2023 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on May 8, 1923, the Florida State Legislature portioned Lee County to create Collier County, Florida's 62"d county; and WHEREAS, counties represent the oldest form of local government and serve the individual needs of regions within a state by solving local problems with local solutions; and WHEREAS, since their first meeting on July 7, 1923, at the Rod & Gun Club in the Town of Everglades, the Board of County Commissioners has served as the governing body of the county and is responsible for setting policies that protect the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life of our residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, one of the most important decisions the Board of County Commissioners makes is the selection of a county manager to implement Board policies and to oversee the county's daily operations; and WHEREAS, as of the Collier County centennial, 70 citizens have served as a County Commissioner in Collier County; and WHEREAS, including our first female county manager currently serving the Board, as of the Collier County centennial, 11 county managers have served as the chief administrator for the Board of County Commissioners; and WHEREAS, via their collective service to our community, county commissioners and county managers have helped to make Collier County one of the most desirable places to live, work, and play in the United States; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that, as we celebrate our centennial, great appreciation is conveyed to the county commissioners and county managers that have served our community in creating and implementing the policies of the Board of County Commissioners, who have dutifully executed their responsibilities, and have helped to provide programs and services over the last century that have made our county a destination for all who wish to visit or reside in paradise.
