PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, recognizing the United States Armed Forces and supporting the designation
of a National Military Appreciation Month; raising awareness that the
freedoms and security citizens of the United States enjoy today are the
result of the blood shed and the vigilance given by the United States Armed
Forces over the history of our great nation; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the sacrifices that members of the United States Armed Forces
and the family members that support them make which have preserved the
liberties that enrich this nation, making it unique in the world community; and
WHEREAS, to foster and sustain such a commitment, it is vital for the youth of the
United States to understand that the service provided by members of the
Armed Forces and their families is an honorable legacy that protects the
freedoms enjoyed by citizens of the United States as well as citizens of
many other nations; and
WHEREAS, on April 30, 1999, the Senate passed 5. Res. 33 (106" Congress), as
National Military Appreciation Month, calling on the people of the United
States, in a symbolic act of unity, to observe a National Military
Appreciation Month in May, to honor the current and former members of the
Armed Forces, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom and
peace; and
WHEREAS, it is important to emphasize to the people of the United States the relevance
of the history and activities of the Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, the month of May was selected for this display of patriotism because during
this month, we celebrate Victory in Europe (VE) Day, Military Spouse Day,
Loyalty Day, Armed Forces Day/Week and Memorial Day;
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that May 2023 be designated as
MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH
IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25th Day of April 2023.
