Backup Documents 04/25/2023 Item # 4A 4A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, "National Day of Prayer" is a day set aside by Congress for all Americans to pray and reaffirm the spiritual principles on which this nation is founded; and WHEREAS, A National Day of Prayer was called for by the first Continental Congress in 1775 and called for by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863; and WHEREAS, in 1952, Congress established a National Day of Prayer as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman; and WHEREAS, in 1988 Congress and President Ronald Reagan amended the law to designate the first Thursday in May as "National Day of Prayer"; and WHEREAS, prayer has comforted us in times of sorrow and tribulation, and given us strength and hope for the future. We ask God to keep His hand upon us and bless Collier County, the great State of Florida, and the United States of America; and WHEREAS, this year is the 72 id anniversary of the consecutive annual observance of the National Day of Prayer and the theme, "PRAY FERVENTLY IN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND AVAILETH MUCH" is based on James 5:16; and WHEREAS, National Day of Prayer gives us an opportunity as a community to pray for our community, our nation, and our world; and WHEREAS, all people are encouraged to recognize the day, to participate in National Day of Prayer ceremonies, and reflect and pray during this National Day of Prayer on May 4, 2023, in Collier County; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 4, 2023, be designated as NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25t' Day of April 2023. _ BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS /-\ ^ COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA / ��`, RICK LOC , CHAIRMAN
