Agenda 04/25/2023 Item # 4D (Proclamation- National Correctional Officers Week)04/25/2023 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, correctional officers have the challenging and often dangerous assignment of ensuring the custody, safety, and welfare of more than 2 million inmates in our nation’s prisons, jails, mental health facilities, and juvenile facilities; and WHEREAS, the correctional officer position is vital to the day-to-day operations of these institutions, and without them, it would be impossible to achieve the foremost institutional goals of security and control; and WHEREAS, correctional officers of the Collier County Sheriff's Office are well-trained professional deputy sheriffs; and WHEREAS, the duties of the correctional officers of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office have become increasingly complex and demanding, including being called upon to simultaneously fill custodial, supervisory, and counseling roles; and WHEREAS, the professionalism, dedication, and courage exhibited by these correctional officers through the performance of these demanding and often conflicting roles deserve our utmost respect; and WHEREAS, the essential work of these Collier County Deputy Sheriffs is honored, and the many contributions and accomplishments of these men and women are crucial components of the field of corrections; NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that May 7-13, 2023, be designated as NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25th Day of April 2023.
